Hi.
Tomorrow I have to pass an oral exam for art, which has been my main option during high school. I kind of screwed up the written tests due to a lack of ... motivation and I can't afford to mess this up since I really need to get into art school next year.

Last year, when I passed my french oral exam, I totally froze and was unable to answer the questions. My brain seemed completely empty although the answers came back to me the minute it was over. Also, I kept making jokes which was weird considering how terrified I was.

Anyways, I'm afraid this will happen again. That's why I came here. Is it even possible to be asperger and successfully pass an oral exam ?

I need useful tips, please ! !!

Yes, I've passed a few oral exams in my day. Best thing to do is practice, practice, practice. Sounds stereotypical, but it may help things go smoother for you.

Sure, it's possible...

You say you're not motivated, but that it's an important test you must pass to reach your goal. Um, that alone should make you motivated enough to try your best.

Thank you for the replies. I passed the exam and failed. But I did my best and it could have been worse.

I had to do a speech in front of my class before i was diagnosed. i burst into tears and couldnt make any eye contact. i was shaking so much i dropped my speech. then everyone laughed. needless to say i failed! I hate oral exams, they are so unfair- they in no way test a person's ability.

I thought I would do an update on this topic in case someone someday has to take an oral oxam and reads my pathetic plea for help and was discouraged to know my story didn't have a happy ending. WELL IT DID. I got the results two months ago and apparently I was awesome and just didn't know it. I got an AMAZING grade.
I can now pass on my newfound wisdom :
If the person interrogating you looks absolutely bored and extremely annoyed with your really short answers... It doesn't mean you failed and you should always wait for the results before admitting defeat.
That's all, goodbye.

Yes! I've passed countless Spanish exams, and gave one absolutely brilliant (in my humble opinion) ten-minute lecture on Jack the Ripper. Creeped my classmates out, but hey.
So yes. Make sure you know your subject. Talk with your hands if necessary. If you have to have a powerpoint, use that for help. Dress in your most comfortable/confidence-inducing clothing and make sure you've got a drink handy. You'll be fine.

I have panic attacks when required to do oral exams. It started in 10th grade before I knew about this whole Asperger's business, my French teacher made us record a minute-long memorised response to a randomly selected pre-approved topic (so basically we had to memorise five different monologues because we never knew which question we would end up with). It was horrible, it was my first experience with panic attacks, and I was shaking and hyperventilating so bad I could barely get the words out, even saying my name for the recording was hard. I had to do it SEVEN times because we had one for each unit. Worst semester of my life. Ever since I've been terrified of having to step in front of a camera or recorder in school. Speeches I am quite good at, because I was on the forensics (speech and debate) team. I'm still terrified of doing them, but I don't panic and can actually come across as very articulate; I was the only one in my 12th grade speech class to get a 100% on a speech (our teacher was super strict and that pretty much never happened). Before you ask, I only joined the debate team because one of my friends wheedled me into it, and the teacher was my friend.
