wasnt george washington well off for his day? i'm pretty sure he was, even if he wasnt thats what i'm saying, back then politics use to stand for something. do you ever think we will see a guy who has a regular job and is "middle class" ever become president? i dont think so

George Washington was well off for his day, in fact, in his day you had to be a property owning white guy in order to vote and of course all of our founding fathers were rich. Never have the voting standards been lower than today. Really though, politics have never really stood for much and have always been dominated by partisan bickering and infighting. The reason that Washington was our first president in the first place was because the articles of confederation had so many problems that they could not be tolerated.
