Example:

"Username says:
(A white box quotes what a pervious poster said)

(What the poster who quoted them says)"

The "quote" tags work like this in their basic manual form:

Code:
[quote]Some text you want to quote[/quote]
or like this when quoting someone:
Code:
[quote="SomeMemberName"]Text to quote[/quote]
You can see that there is always an opening and a closing tag pair, bracketing the text to quote, with the opening tag modified slightly to include additional text - normally a member's name, but it can be any text.

When used "for real" those examples look like this in a post:
Quote:
Some text you want to quote
and
SomeMemberName wrote:
Text to quote

To make a post which quotes what someone said in another post, just click on the "quote" button shown in their post and edit the content back to include only the parts you want to address - please don't unnecessarily quote the entire post - then add what you want to say after the closing quote tag. Use the "preview" button to check everything looks Ok before submitting a post.
The general convention is to have the first quote from a post showing the poster's name, and subsequent quotes from their post showing as just "quote".
You could also copy/paste text blocks from one post or several others and manually add quote tags as required - some assembly is always required for the best results.

This is just one of the BBCode tags available for use in posts - check out the FAQ in this forum for others.
