I am not allowed to be an adult; mom will not let me

You stated that you go to college, so why not call social services from there? If you are an adult and capable of learning to be self sufficient and being self sufficient once you are taught how, then your mothers actively preventing you from having those opportunities is abuse. you aren't a child but there is adult abuse and it isn't always physical and it isn't always meant to be abusive, sometimes it's done with the very best intentions, just misguided.

I'd talk to a social worker, alone - just you and the worker, not your mother - first and tell her what your situation is and what changes you want to make. Then see what suggestions and help she may have for you.

There are people you can go to for help that your mother doesn't have to know about. You talk to your doctor alone, I'm sure so talk to him about it next time you go. You said you go to a day program, and I'm not sure what that involves but I assume there is some sort of staff there that you could talk to about this, and if not then there must be phones there and you could call social services and talk to a social worker from there.

If you don't know what the legal status is exactly, you are going to have to find that out before you can proceed, but social services would probably understand it and know what they could do to help you.

Also, get out of the mindset of your mother having to allow you to be an adult before you become an adult. As long as you are waiting for her to give her permission and be happy about it, it won't happen it doesn't sound like. You are an adult, you now just have to start making yourself act like one by finding solutions to your problems on your own, and solutions that will make you happy, not your mother.
