What on earth?

That seems to be the spirit of the place. Frankly, I do this, and I rather enjoy when others do. If it seems too extreme, feel free to try and put the thread back on topic.
Uhm? what else do you want the random forums to be? They are there to keep the spamming tendencies that we all feel in one sealed container (mostly). This is a community, not just some sort of information site. Those exist as well.
I understand that this is a community, but in a community there are general courtesy rules that people typically follow so that they feel like they are not being treated rather rudely and get a say in the matter. It is not supposed to be just a few people who post for the heck of it. I don't mind games and polls every now and then, but you have to remember that there are other people on this site that want to say something too.
For the topics that a lot of people are interested in, this just doesn't happen. I do see where you're coming from though, as I've seen threads in which someone posts something fairly serious and a bunch of random comments fall on it. The alternative, if we were well-behaved NASers, would be that the thread would just plummet off the page. Frankly, I don't know which is better. At least, the way it stands, people will find that first post within a day or two of it's posting. We are not a well-behaved bunch, and tend to post whatever interesting stuff comes to mind. Just because it is not the original poster's conception of the thread, doesn't mean that the play is not of some value to others.

Is that because they show some sort of interest?
