I'm an atheist. I don't believe in Gods, mermaids and similar things.

I've always believed what Mark Twain said: "I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it."

So yeah, I basically think that when you die, your body just decomposes and your "soul" disappears. It would "feel" like the time before you were born. (The reason I put "soul" between quotes is that I believe the soul is actually just the functioning and circuits of the brain.)

There's no proof of The Big Bang

The Big Bang is a well-tested scientific theory and is widely accepted within the scientific community. It offers a comprehensive explanation for a broad range of observed phenomena, including the abundance of light elements, the cosmic microwave background, large scale structure, and the Hubble diagram for Type Ia supernovae (Wright, E.L.; 9 May 2009. "What is the evidence for the Big Bang? Frequently Asked Questions in Cosmology". UCLA, Division of Astronomy and Astrophysics. Retrieved 16 October 2009).

There's no proof that an asteroid killed the dinosaurs

The Chicxulub crater is a prehistoric impact crater buried underneath the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. Its center is located near the town of Chicxulub, after which the crater is named. The age of Chicxulub asteroid impact and the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary (K-Pg boundary) coincide precisely, leading to the conclusion that the cause of the crater was the same cause resulting in the demise of non-avian dinosaurs on Earth ("Chicxulub". Earth Impact Database. University of New Brunswick).

There's no proof that a comet struck Siberia in 1908

The Tunguska event was an enormously powerful explosion that occurred near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in what is now Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, at about 07:14 KRAT (00:14 UT) on June 30 [O.S. June 17], 1908. Current evidence indicates that the explosion, having the epicentre (60.886°N, 101.894°E), was caused by the air burst of a large meteoroid or comet fragment at an altitude of 5–10 kilometres (3 to 6 mi) above the Earth's surface. Although the meteoroid or comet appears to have burst in the air rather than hitting the surface, this event still is referred to as an impact.

I am a 5th generation atheist. Atheism is not encouraged in my family or anything (religion isn't really discussed), but it happened that way. I even have a relative from way back when (I believe my great great grandfather) who was refused a position in the FBI or the CIA (can never remember which) on the basis of him being atheist.

I consider myself agnostic. But creationism is my preferred theory, so you could say I believe in "God".

Agnostic. Tried getting into religion, couldn't do it because I'm such a straight thinker. Not ruling out anything though, I'm kind of thinking there's more to this universe than we think. I'm also transhumanist, since I believe technology can and should save us from death and aging.

I've always been an atheist, but I don't force it upon others. I don't go crazy and try to change other peoples opinions. Religion gives many people peace of mind, because they're able to dump all their problems on some all-knowing, all-powerful being. Personally, that sort of thing wouldn't help me at all, but if it makes your life easier than that's your right.

I do, however, vehemently disagree with the people who say that atheists are immoral (Boy Scouts of America, for instance). We have a right to our beliefs just like the theists. I'm not even sure how the idea that atheists are less moral got started; it's patently ridiculous.

This voting system is rigged, I refuse to vote for an option that calls me `brainwashed`.
I believe in a lot of things, spirituality, chakra´s, God, all those happy feel-good things.
Because if they´re all just made up, what difference would it make if I´d be killed right now, or die from a natural cause years later?
Our lifes would be insignificant, worthless, every single action we have ever made, meaningless.
I just like to believe there is some sort of justice or meaning in this world.

I dislike atheists or agnostics that treat me as I´m some sort of idiot that believes in fairy tales just because he believes in something else.

Agnostic. I believe that there is a higher power, but who are we to call it 'god'? Who are we to say that's an entity, whereas it could be a spiritual realm? I would like to believe in life after death, though not of a 'god'. If you believe in something, does it make it true?
On the other hand, I'm very open minded to other beliefs and religions and like to hear about them as well, though I have my opinion, and they have theirs. :)

How can someone who wrote such a biased, condescending and bigoted poll have the gall to call theists closed minded?

Agnostic. The theists I have seen and have interacted with are really just awful they say that if you don't believe what they believe you are evil. If you have questions you are evil. They make you miserable until you are like them. I don't you should do good things to either to get a reward or avoid punishment. I think you should do good just because it is the right thing to do.

I'm more agnostic-religious. Christianity is clearly different from other religions, because a God took a vow of poverty.
