Hi everyone! :D Basically, I just wanna know what problems people faced in the classroom, especially with teachers and learning. I was hoping people wouldn't mind sharing their experiences? Thanks! :)

One of the issues I ran into repeatedly over the years in school was that many of my teachers would get very irritated with me for drawing in class while they talked. They seemed to take it as a sign of disrespect, as though if my hands were occupied, my ears stopped working.

What they could not grasp was that I actually processed their lectures better if I could doodle while I listened. If I was forced to sit still and stare at the teacher, I was distracted by every other little thing that went on in the classroom, outside the windows, or passing in the hallway.

While I was focused on sketching, I heard everything they said as if I were listening to it on the radio, but once my eyes got to darting around the room and out the windows, my focus was blown and I missed everything.

I was an outsider in high school, a complete recluse and freak. I was utterly alone.

I guess, in a way, that was preparing me for my future which, incidentally, is the same.

I think that I have the most trouble with the classroom environment. The ticking of the clock, books slamming down on the table, whispering students, the sound of people chewing gum, etc. All of those sound drive me insane, and I find it ridiculously difficult to concentrate. And the classrooms and hallways are really crowded (at least that's how it feels), so physical contact is unavoidable. :(

Also a lot of people at my school think that its a good idea to put on unnecessarily strong perfume/cologne that can be smelled from a mile away. So yeah it's mainly sensory issues that bother me. There's definitely more to this, but I can't think of any more right now.

I was labeled a "problem" and eventually dropped out. I was very awkward and quiet. I had trouble paying attention because of background noises and my insomnia. I did not learn too well because I need hands-on learning. Most of the teachers did not like me because I rarely showed up for school. I went to a special school for kids with problems. They always thought I was defiant when I did not get their implied meanings and instructions.

I have more hope for college.

Having sensory overload from being around large groups of students or when eating. You just can't get away from the hordes of people when you need to eat, unless you pack food. I also have issues getting bored while in classes; I need to leave the room a lot of the time, and some professors hate when you do that often.

Well, bullying for one (yes, even in the classroom, the teachers must be blind) and whenever the teacher would turn his/her back it would ramp up. I just found I was bored out of my mind, the seats made my butt unbearably itch and my back hurt and I just wish they would have issued orange jumpsuits to make it official that we were essentially prisoners in that classroom. I felt like I was in a jail and I was the only student aware of it.

What's surprising was that I maintained honors up to grade 11 and was a teacher's pet. I might have hated school but I respected them as decent people trying their best and as people I could actually have an intelligent conversation with. In school, most of the kids were interested in who would win in a fight between X and Y, alcohol and sex.

My anxieties made it hard to concentrate

The wallsless environment in middle school was too loud

I liked school though.

SOmewher in jr high or highschool, i started doing math equations or drawing. Not useful math either, I used a random number generator on my calculator to give me a string of 50 fractions (give or take, depended on the size of the paper) then I tried to reduce them to see if I could get a nice simple number from them... I got in trouble over it once or twice.
