Any Aspie Economists?

I just finished my undergraduate degree in psychology. Today is literally my first day after college. I will not use my psychology degree, and I will not go on to pursue a graduate degree in psychology.

The only thing I seem to be good at is school (reading, learning, analyzing, researching, writing), so I am looking to get educated in something else, something that I can make money with after I graduate, something that will involve research and not a lot of social interaction. Social sciences in my thing. I love studying people and society in the abstract. I just hate interacted with people in real life. Does anybody have a degree in economics or a job related to the study of economics? I don't want to get myself into a field that I am not well-suited for like I did when pursing psychology.

So I guess economics has some scope for Aspies!

Like you I like the social sciences. I majored in psychology and education (i.e. in child psychology, and the history and philosophy of education - not in practical teaching skills). And I had sociology as a submajor. I did work in a government research area concerned with labour market economics, but have now moved on into criminology and more recently IT related to criminal law.

If you can get a job doing social science research or analysis - e.g. policy research and reports for a government agency - that would probably interest you and stimulate your mind. I have worked in fields like this for most of my adult life.

How are you at math? Economists do need to understand a certain amount of math although it is not all that advanced as far as math goes.

I studied Psychology at University. I didn't have a clue what job I would do after, to be honest, and just saw it as the next challenge after College. I ended up working as a Statistician. Some people work as Economists in the same organisation, though I have little insight into the work they do - though I don't think it's far removed from being a Statistician. Statistics is part of most BSc Psychology courses - and many will try and teach you transferable skills by teaching a software package like SPSS, or SAS.

Perhaps you could do sales like a friend of mine does (same major). Or maybe industrial Psychology . I hear there is good money in that.

I have a BA in Economics. There are Economics degrees which don't require a lot of math, depends on the school. Some schools offer more than one type of Econ degree, sometimes in different departments, even.
