"Greatest Event in Television History"

Periodically on Adult Swim, they spotlight what they call the Greatest Event in Television History, which is always a shot-by-shot re-creation of the opening credits to a classic TV show.

Of the four Events, which one was your favorite?

all those happened while I was in graduate school - no tv - no opinion - sorry.

I was an infant when those shows started.

I've never seen any of those recreations, but "Simon & Simon" was the only show I watched regularly of the four you listed.

I've never even heard of any of them

I am at a complete to understand how any of those listed shows can be said to be a great event in television history -- to think one of them is the greatest event in television history is completely laughable.

None of them broke any significant ground in any manner whatsoever.

There are other television events that were far more important. Some that might legitimately be included would be:

1) ABC's Wide World of Sports -- brought a wide variety of sports into the average American's home, many of which they might never have heard of otherwise.
2) The coverage of any number of news events including the Mercury space shots and the assassination of President Kennedy. And don't forget the news coverage of Vietnam.

As far as individual tv series, how about:
1) Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color -- no Sunday night in the 60s was complete without everyone in the family sitting down to watch this.
2) Dr Who -- it's been over 50 years since the first episode was filmed
3) Last of the Summer Wine -- the only sitcom to run 31 seasons.
4) Monty Python's Flying Circus -- only 4 seasons but it had a pretty substantial impact to television comedy around the world.
5) Firing Line - William F Buckley Jr's public affairs show that ran for more than 30 years.

Otherwise, it's all downhill from there.

I never watched any of the shows & the little of the 4 events I see on Adult Swim was supper boring

The Greatest Event in TV History?

Easy

The fall of the Berlin Wall.

Picture the scene, a press conference being broadcast LIVE where the East German government minister makes the massive mistake of announcing that the borders are open right now for East Germans to visit the West. The end result is that massive numbers of people make their way down to the wall and the guards had no option but to open the barriers.

I was there, I watched the wall fall, live on German TV sat in a Frankfurt hotel room. I then hired a car and drove all the way from Frankfurt to Berlin to join in the party.

That must have been a great experience. A truly pivotal moment for Europe.
