You should have taken it up with H.R.
With AS, what he was citing you for was a non-issue and discrimination.
At the time, I knew it was 'wrong', one of my managers chewed me out for 'coming in to work drunk' etc (I have a neuromuscular disorder, which sometimes makes me slur my speech among other things, I didn't even drink at the time, I was just a teenager).
The extra stress was not pleasant, and I quit soon after. I should, by right, have complained to HR through one of the two managers I was closer to, but, the thought of the extra stress of that (plus the time it would take from my already packed schedule of working multiple jobs and going to school), I just couldn't.
I do urge people to do what's right, which hopefully educates people so they don't make the same mistakes again with employees that follow me, but, I can totally understand when people don't have the energy to want to hassle with it.
