It's nice to know if someone has responded to something that you've written, but I can't keep track of where and what I've posted in my head. I read the faq and all the post topics on the first page of this forum, but nothing seems to address this question. I'm sure it's somewhere, so please forgive me. Now when I click on "My Account" I see "Last 10 News Submissions sent by Earth_Intruder:" but there is nothing listed? It doesn't seem to be a link either? It seems logical that this is where I would find the solution to my problem, but maybe it is just not working for me? :?

Is there a way to be notified when someone responds to a post you have made or or to a thread in which you have commented, or have I gotten a warped view of online communities from being on Facebook to long?

If you look near the bottom of the thread you are interested in, there is a line (under the 'Post reply' button) that says 'watch this topic for replies'. Click on that, and then you will be emailed when someone responds to the thread. :)

I think that option is also a tickbox when you enter a comment on a thread, so check that and it will automatically send you notifications.

Then, if you want to stop the notifications, you go to the same place at the bottom of the thread, and the 'Watch topic' will magically show as 'Stop watching this topic'.

Also, if you click on your name (i.e. from one of your posts), it will take you to a screen that has your basic information. Then you can click on 'see all posts by Earth Intruder', which will take you to a list where you see all your posts, which can be clicked on individually, to go to that particular post. You can also do this on other people's names, if you want to see what they have been posting.

And welcome to WP. :D

A thread can be watched as Moomingirl describes, and when you post to a thread the "Watch this topic for replies" option is automatically activated.

You can also change your profile setting "Always notify me of replies" to "Yes" (it's currently "No") to make this the default action for any posts made.

Thank you!

These replies have been most helpful. I don't know why I didn't see these buttons and links before. I have marked a few threads and I'm anxious to see how the notification would work.

I have marked this thread to follow. Can someone reply to this thread, even if you have nothing to add, so that I can experience it first hand?

Hi, Earth_Intruder! Welcome!

I just happened to read your post above. So I'm replying just for the sake of giving you the notification if you haven't experienced that yet with another thread.

Thanks, Jk1!

I didn't see any notifications when I came back. Then, I decided to look at my email. Duh! Why didn't I even think of them being there?
