My name is Julia and I'm a junior in high school. I overheard some of my peers gossip about how they thought I was autistic in the hallways a few days ago. I learned about aspergers through a friend who had it, and discovered some of the traits he exhibited echoed mine, yet neither of us spoke about it. It never crossed my mind that others perceived me that way, though I knew most people considered me strange. I should have considered this alternate perception long ago, but I've always been apathetic or oblivious to other's perceptions of me unless it was spelled out. There's better things to waste my time with.

I was still fascinated by the idea I may be autistic and felt such observations from my classmates may be confirmation. I never thought the feelings of others had much weight, but it wasn't just me as I had previously thought. Others felt the same way about myself as I did. I confronted my parents when I got home from school and they told me I was diagnosed when I was about 6 years old, in the first grade, and didn't want to tell me until they felt I was ready. I had actual papers to prove my confirmations. My isolation felt more concrete.

I decided this would be a fun way to interact with people who were like me. I never fit in well, especially with other girls. Most of my friends are boys. Many are diagnosed autistic or show autistic traits. Connecting these dots allowed me to forsee that I may be on the spectrum, but I don't buy into any theory completely without any proof. I have proof now, and can finally declare autism as the answer to my puzzling behavior.

A lot of you guys seem pretty cool. I'm excited to find new people who share my worldview to connect with.

Futuristic, hello and welcome. What a way to find out about your diagnosis! I'm glad that you finally were able to have a name for your behavior. I hope that you find WP to be a place where you are at home and find like-minded individuals. :)

Julia..what an (almost) coincidence!! the song right now i'm listening to right now is Yulia by Princess Chelsea 8O

pretty name. i remember being a Junior in HS too, like it was yesterday! some people/peers at my school have also made correct assumptions about my ASD as though they were there to diagnose me. i also know of a person at my school, i see myself in him, i believe he may be autistic as well and we have speech therapy together. being a boy, most of my friends are girls so we are sort of in the same boat there too.

like nyxjord has said, i hope you find this community to be good, and seek out like minded people! i know i have benefited from here. :D

welcome to the club.
