I would NOT do those weird, fast pans of scenery, or put the camera on somebody's shoulder while their companion is spinning around, for instance (maybe, while dancing), so that poor people like me wouldn't get motion sickness just watching a friggin' movie!!

If I were George Lucas, I would have restored Star Wars to the condition it was (black-mat warts and all) when it premiered in 70mm, and then walked away from any other changes.

If I was a director, I would try to resist putting 'shaky cam' into my movies. It's alright for a few types of movies, but it's being over-used lately. Just like the 'bullet time' from the Matrix movies used to be, it looked cool until everybody started using it.

If I was the Director, and I was making a movie from a book, I would follow the book more closely. I know some things just don't "translate" to screen, but....

I would not switch the camera view every two seconds. Where are those 20 min scenes where the camera never moved except to pan? Where there was more emphasis on the actor's talents/abilities rather than fancy effects?
Considering the special effects on the 3D side is my field, I'd think I'd be more supportive of it, but I really miss true talent being displayed on screen, like the Marx Brothers.

I agree!! ! I appreciate old movies, more-and-more, all the time, because I get kind of sick and tired of the special effects!!

If I was a director I'd get licensing rights to Initial D and make a decent live-action adaption with eurobeat for the soundtrack.

Then I'd make an animated series based on a fantasy story I've been writing for years.

Better then to translate a short story into a movie. A novel may turn into a 6 hour movie.

If I was Patrick MacGoohan, I would have made the final episode of "The Prisoner" make more sense.

As someone who has directed a few short films and maybe will direct a few more, I want to take the audience on an emotional and philosophical experience. I think all art is about taking the audience on a vicarious experience. Sometimes it is wild and frenetic. Other times it is quiet and philosophical. But it is always about experiencing life. It is about the senses, not the intellect. Great art can stimulate ideas and lead to deep insights, but it does so through dragging us through the muck and mud of life.

The thing I try to do is to take the viewer through an experience. A director is essentially a tour guide through a story. She shows you the interesting parts and directs your attention so you don't get lost in the irrelevant details.

If I were the director, I'd take you to the edge of confusion, spin you around, and let you experience the joy of finding your own way.
