What are your favorite sketches?

Yeah, "Weekend Update" is definitely my fav----followed by "Roseanne-Rosannadanna".

The first years with Jane Curtain, the black guy (can't remember his name, right now----but, he's the cashier, currently, on "Two Broke Girls"), Lorraine Newman----and, my all-time favorite, Gilda Radner (I wonder if her husband, Gene Wilder, ever got married, after she died), were the BEST years, IMO.

There's been tons of other castmates that I've liked----probably, for ME, my next favorite years, were the ones with Amy Poehler, Mya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and Anna Gastyre. The current cast doesn't have alot of people that I like, really alot----but, they're new, yet.

I am a big fan of SNL, especially the shows from the 1970s and mid-80s to early 90s. Jan Hooks, Phil Hartman, and Dana Carvey were some of my favorite cast members. The program really did seem special then.

It started getting more weird than funny in the late 90s, and it was still okay for a while but eventually I didn't find the jokes very funny anymore. Maybe Seth Myers' promotion to head writer had something to do with the change. I just know I enjoyed it a lot more when it felt special and was attracting truly memorable comic actors.

I got a dvd box set of some of these shows a few years ago, and didn't really like them.

But Peter Cook and Dudley Moore did a terrific bunch of sketches on one show from about 1976, I seem to remember.

Fun Fact: SNL was called "NBC's Saturday Night" for its first two seasons, because the name "Saturday Night Live" was taken by a newsmagazine on ABC hosted by Howard Cosell (a precursor to 20/20). When the ABC show was cancelled after a very short run, NBC was free to use the name.

Fun Fact #2: SNL was nearly cancelled during the 1980-81 season, after Lorne Michaels and the remaining original cast had left. The new producer, Jean Doumanian, hired an entirely new cast in hopes of taking the show in a new direction. The change in leadership, combined with a writer's strike, as well as NBC's low ratings and near-bankruptcy (because the blew most of their money on "Supertrain" and they lost potential revenue due to the 1980 Olympics boycott), nearly wrecked the show. However, the season had some high points as well: Eddie Murphy was part of the new cast, as well as the first f-bomb on network TV.

Doumanian and the entire cast (except for Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo) were fired at the end of the season.

Oh, yeah----I forgot Eddie Murphy. I LOVED his "Buckwheat"! !
