"Hot water freezes faster than cold water."

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard someone say.

*giggles* I didn't realise this was the stupid things forum and was trying to rationalise how that could be true! Although I must confess that I imagine the statement to be true. It depends on how you look at it. Clearly cold water will turn to ice faster than hot water will, but perhaps the person was trying to explain that the rate at which hot water drops heat when put in a freezer is effectively faster than the rate at which cold water does. Hmm... I'm not doing it justice, but I'm guessing that the hot water will lose heat faster than the cold by virtue of the fact that it is hotter and in an environment that is just as cold. However, this does not translate to 'hot water feezes faster than cold water', because the cold water is closer to frozen.

If anyone can make sense of that, please help me out here!! !

A few years ago, I was at my mum's place and I noticed a lot of fruit flies buzzing around her fruit bowl so I remarked "there's a lot of fruit flies buzzing around - that must mean there's something rotten!"

It took a long time for me to live that one down.

One of the stupidest psychobabble remarks I've ever heard is "you've got to change". How? Does it mean I have to get into new clothes? Do I have to change my molecular structure? or what? No wonder I thought that was complete garbage.

One of the dumbest local remarks I heard was from a footy commentator who said of a star player "and he's grabbing the ball with those great long testacles of his!". I think the word was actually tentacles.

Whenever somebody tries to dicipline me at my age, I go Hog Wild.

I was at one of the many group programs I went to for people who need help with social skills, and on one of our outings we saw a sign that said 'children under 18 cannot enter without their parents being present'. So this girl asks "What about after you're 18, do you still have to take your parents?". Even this other dumb kid who I hated found that amusing.
