Age & Location don't display under avatar
LivingInParentheses, are you familiar with php?
Hi Alex, nice to meet you and thanks for getting back to me on this! My age still wont display but my location is there so that's a good start. I see that most people's ages seem to be showing so I will double check the way I have my birthdate entered in my profile yet again because I suspect I've gotten something entered wrong. I put it in MM/DD/YYYY - pretty sure that's how it's to be entered.
I am familiar with php, yes - the forums I've adminned/webmastered/moderated/coded in the past have almost all used SMF forum software, which is also php-driven. I don't think I could sit down and write php code from scratch with a pencil and paper at this time, like I could with straight HTML, but editing/tweaking code would be no problem at all. Writing from scratch would require a bit of re-acclimation I think at this point.
(Here's where my aspie-ness kicks in. I sit here for ten minutes obsessing over whether I should say "why do you ask?" - which might be a dumb question, or which might put you on the spot and make you uncomfortable, either of which would mean I shouldn't ask. Or whether to NOT ask that, and risk you thinking I don't care that you're likely responding specifically to my statements that I could offer my input to this site, which would be a faux pas on my part as well... etc etc. I suck at this part. So just know that my offer still stands, my confidence on my abilities is pretty strong BUT I don't know THIS forum software specifically, and I really don't like Cloud Fare at all.. not that you asked.
(edited to add: the source reads a lot like SMF actually. I'm curious to know what software you're using? I'm familiar with phpbb as well but not as intimately - haven't been inside it's admin panel yet either.)
(edited a second time to say that I guess you're using phpbb based on the fact that your theme is defined as subsilver2. I've not been inside this admin panel then. I do have extensive experience with it as a forum member though, and the forum I post on that uses phpbb gets hacked and spammed a billion times more than any SMF forum I've ever made/posted on, FWIW. But I guess it's just personal preference which one you want to work with and Im' sure there's a great reason for going with phpbb, I've just never done so personally.
Thanks again for the reply.

yeah my age and gender don't show at all. I have to think that there's something in the settings for each member group that is not consistent. But don't know this forum software specifically yet, having not worked inside it's admin panel yet. Usually I install software on my own server and work with it there prior to tweaking things on sites I'm volunteering or working on, but I've had no reason to install whatever one this thus far, so couldn't offer specific instructions on fixing this just now.

So. I checked and my birth date is entered correctly so no idea why it won't show. There is no place for me to select a gender in my profile however, so obviously that can't show. I tried entering my date of birth as M/DD/YYYY instead of MM/DD/YYYY since my month is "01" and I thought maybe that was throwing it off, however it doesn't work with "1" there either. The instructions on the profile page say to enter it as MM/DD/YYYY though, so it should be working. Unless the instructions were left the same, but the actual coding was changed to british style (DD/MM/YYYY). But I tried that as well and it also didn't work so I don't see how that could be the issue. I'd tool around with it and find it if I could. Since Cloud Fare caches every single thing that comes, goes, sits on the server, etc, I'm sure the propagation of fixed php pages for the sake of troubleshooting is completely gorked up as well, but I do not know for sure since I don't know much about Cloud Fare except that I don't like anything about it or the idea of a reverse proxy (which is a schizophrenic's potential worst nightmare for web posting, I would think - imagine, having everything you type intercepted by a middle man before posting! paranoia nightmare, I would think! I know I don't like it and my paranoia is garden-variety...) But what do I know about that? Nothing from experience, so apologies if this thought re: paranoia is way off base.

^^as for age, try switching the slashes in the birthday field for hyphens as follows: MM‐DD‐YYYY, and then entering in YYYY the year before your birthday so you won't show as a year younger.
i was showing as 17 for the longest time after by 18th birthday this last june, so i changed the 1997 in the birthday field to 1996 and now it displays correctly. site could benefit from a little math lesson.

This has finally worked, thank you. Someone might want to go ahead and change the profile.php page or equivalently named page within phpBB so that the example given on the page which instructs how to enter the birthday does not use slashes any more, but dashes instead as youv'e illustrated here. I suppose the forum software isn't putting quotation marks around the back slashes while processing the information and so is ignoring them because otherwise it would read as a stop command of some sort and mess stuff up, if you know what I mean - too early/not enough coffee to say it clearly.
Should be all of five minutes worth of work to do that.

I re-entered the false birth year of 1961 and now my age shows correctly at 53. Thanks for teaching us how to lie
in order to get to the truth.
