Do you ever experience this from your immediate family?

I happen to have a group of immediate family members who complain that I never call them or write etc. I had not seen them in several years. When I do call them they only talk to me for 15 minutes before they supposedly have something else to do.

My mom who I have not talked to for 5 years, would often talk to me and then cut me off with "But I am going to go now."

My dad often does the same thing but it's "Okay I am going shopping, getting gas, doing this or that etc. Can I can I talk to you later?" Yet I they never bother to call me or anything.

Why they have even pulled this on Father's Day, Mother's day and birthday etc.

Does anyone else deal with this?

I kind of go through this, as I almost never call my family, but I'm usually the one trying to hang up. The way I think about it is they don't really want to talk they just want to check in with each other, maintain contact/relationship, its basically NT maintenance work rather than seeking actual engagement and deeper involvement.

Sounds about right to me. They probably just want to hear from you for a few minutes. If you want to talk for longer, ask them right up front if they have time to do that, and if not; when will they?

I don't want to say anything bad about my family but to me I feel like it's rude to give me mixed signals like that and then just cut me off. This is especially when I live over 1,000 miles away. It's pretty superficial.

I used to get it a lot, but since I've been diagnosed, I guess they gave up.

Interesting enough, the ones who don't complain and contact me instead are the ones on the spectrum as well.
