Getting a job this summer, but I have questions...
I am getting a job for this summer in the local Salvation Army kitchen through a program in my school, which is through some government department I had never heard of, so yes, I am stoked!
But, I am wondering a few things...
1. Should I shave my head and facial hair since I will be working in a kitchen?
2. Should I dress professionally or casually?
3. Should I be polite or mute?
4. Would it be acceptable to not make eye contact as much as others?
Those are my questions, thanks for reading! Sorry if I sound stupid.

1. They will tell you when you start the job on the kitchen rules but I doubt you would need to. If you have long hair/beard then you might be required to wear a net.
2. They should give you a dress code if they haven't then enquire at the place you will be working.
3. Polite! Depends what you are doing but you will need to communicate. Make sure you pay close attention to instructions given.
4. That shouldn't even be a question everyone is different in their mannerisms. As long as you perform your work it should not be an issue.
You don't sound stupid everyone has concerns when starting work. Asking about them is the best thing to do! ![]()

1. Should I shave my head and facial hair since I will be working in a kitchen?
Facial hair might be a good choice, especially if you will be cooking yourself.
Head hair, not so much; you are usually supplied with a cooks hat.
2. Should I dress professionally or casually?
Casually, perhaps 'smart casual' (a dress shirt on jeans).
You can expect to be given a kind of uniform, which will include aforementioned hat
3. Should I be polite or mute?
I'd be polite, but kitchens are a tad noisy, so there won't be too much interaction
4. Would it be acceptable to not make eye contact as much as others?
This is the same as everywhere else.
As long as you (pretend to) make some amount, you'd be ok
