Suggestion - gay/lesbian forum
I only came out gay 3 years ago (my gay friend has AS which is what made me look at being an Aspie as well) and I have found the gay sites/forums to be very helpful to me.
After finding this site... merging being gay and having AS is just too good to be true!
I agree. I would be a lot happier having somwhere like that I could go to. I think it would give a lot of support to a few members here, but I still don't think there are enough of us for a forum to be made for us. It would be useful though, I don't fit in with the 'gay culture' really, but then there are also a lot of threads on here, particularly in Love & Dating etc which I can't really reply to or identify with.

I'm happy that you have found such joy.
Hmm....
This thread is the 'singles list'. It list people and their interests, as well as what they look for in a partner. Most are straight, but I've seen a few gay people and bisexuals. I engineered the link so it will start at the end of last year.

This thread, an old one, is "What's your sexuality?" You may just find some kindred spirits.

It was just a suggestion...!
And I may pursue it.
And as far as curry goes - I like them hotter than most
(yes I'm still using the metaphor).
I have browsed the 'Love and Dating' but it is virtually all straight/family people and although I can relate to some of it, I am still of the opinion that a room for LBGT would be appreciated by some ![]()

Thats so sweet of you Quatermass but tbh, I dont think I will be looking at 58 pages of comments to see who is gay. I am not here just for gay people. I will/do enjoy the topics that are non-gay
And I have just noticed how my last post sounds (oops)
I meant to say that I can give as good as I get if someone has a negative opinion about gay people. I can give as good as I get about any subject that I am passionate about!! !

I knew what you meant, old chap. I certainly (in the mildest scenario) did not invision you as a vindaloo-sauce swigging madman.
I also know you're not here just to meet other gay people. I am just pointing out the main difficulties that entail either just getting an LBGT forum here in the first place, or sustaining it without it sinking in a flaming wreck.

I suggested separate rooms because in my experience (which is still quite limited) gay and lesbian like thier own rooms/forums/clubs. It don't mean we don't like each other because we do. We just prefer our own spaces so to speak.
But the same forum will be fine.
Ah right, fair enough. I probably wouldn't go in there then if it was separated into men and women. I think if anything a general gay forum would have been better. One which included transgendered people, bisexuals etc as well. But, even then, it won't happen. I don't think there are enough gay people on here. And some a**holes would start complaining about there not being a straight forum.
Not to mention that it would become a flame-magnet within a few weeks....
Pun?
To look at the idea, there are a pretty decent number
of gay or bi people here - and that's just counting those
posting openly. The site itself is welcoming, and the vast
majority of the members seem to have a fairly inclusive
attitude. BUT, there are occasional members who have
fairly homophobic tendencies. In fact, I've seen stuff
written that is essentially hate speech.
Now, the extreme stuff is clearly against the rules of
conduct, and usually gets deleted. But, it seems unfair
to have to defend ones orientation, just because they
mention something relating to their sexuality. Still,
what topics would one expect to discuss in such an
area? Which is to say, if it is simply to become another
general discussion area, it further fragments the site,
and prevents as open a flow of communications.
One reasonable alternative (and somewhat similar to
the first step towards getting the dino-aspie forum -
which is more of the random discussion section not
filled with forum games than anything else), is to
begin gay specific threads, in fora to which they
would otherwise belong. Certainly, straight people
would still post in them (just as males do in the
women's forum), but perhaps, like the haven, these
could be protected from a broader range of speech
than can be provided, in general.

That was a really good Politically Correct dissertation Calandale
Personally I don't feel the need to justify my sexuality. Like I said before, prejudice is in every community but we learn to live with it. Homophobia has not been an issue for me. I can be quite flamboyant and camp at times and I love wearing bright clothes. Pink is my favorite colour. And when I am out I do get looked at and sometimes laughed at but I just smile politely - I am very comfortable with my sexuality and how I express it. It is almost like a personality that I 'wear' which makes me feel empowered and strong. In some ways I have many personality's that I 'wear' depending on the situation I am in - almost chameleon like. Without these personalities, I would never go outside my house.
Within a community, AS, Gay, Black, Christian etc. we are more comfortable around those people that are the same as us. This is not to say that we reject others not like us, we welcome them, its just easier when when talking to a person of like mind.

True. But we don't have separate forums for Christians or Blacks either.
Nor by nationality. If we were to divide up the site based on all of these
'comfort zones', it would just end up in complete fragmentation.
