Hi everyone,

I am in my thirties and I am preparing a master's degree in biology.
Recently I struggled a lot with social interactions and tiredness during classes, plus I have ADD so a lot of problems with my attention.

My educator wants me to prepare a list to introduce my AS to professors and students in order to explain them why I may seem odd or why I struggle with certain things. It needs to be personnal and adapted to my autism. I find it difficult to do.

Does anybody knows any model to do that kind of list ?

Thx

I suppose you could start off with a brief description of autism in general, including pointing out that it can effect a variety of aspects in a variety of ways. Then perhaps you can go off on discussing series of those aspects, and what they are like for you particularly. You could talk about how it effects communication, social interaction, sensory experiences, interests, executive functioning, self-soothing, techniques (aka stims), and whatever aspects you thing may effect you in class. For instance, say you need a bit longer to answer a question, because you are trying to think of how to say your answer. Then that could be mentioned that it is due to how your brain processes language. Or if you have a noticeable self-soothing technique you do in class, you can explain that this behavior is something you do help enable to cope with certain activities. And so on. You may want to right down your point, to figure them. And perhaps practice speaking them before you give the speech. Also, for me personally, I have noticed that I tend to do better with public speaking when I stay focused on the content of what I am saying, speak like I am thinking out loud, and avoid excessively focusing on speaking style or the audience.

I discussed my draft with my educator ; we made a more "ordered" one.

I also trained myself with her to present my AS. I have a meeting with a professor next monday, so I will train a little more this weekend I guess ^^
