So a while back I signed up with vocational rehabilitation, because I think I am at a point I could probably do some part time hours...and start getting a little experience. I am hoping at some point I could get off SSI, but that will be further down the road in the mean time I can earn lik 85 dollars a month before it cuts into those payments, and beyond that they deduct some minimal amount for each dollar beyond that.

Anyways though, i met with the vocational rehibilitation counseler, and they have directed me to a place that can help with employment and working on job skills and such, apparently to start with I have to go in tuesday and wednesday next week for a few hours...not sure what all it will consist of, but I suppose I am somewhat looking forward to it and hope it goes well.

I hope it goes well, too.

In my opinion, you're taking a good step.

i signed up for voc. rehab myself on two separate occasions. once, in the summer after graduating high school via the advice of my counselor, and again the following summer. i never got very far in the "process" either time, the first time they had to suspend my file before i even started receiving any services, because they were unable to contact me. but they were able to send mail to me...

they asked for my IEP file from high school then, it's possible they may ask you for some school related documents to help determine eligibility for certain things/programs but perhaps the process varies by state (i'm in california), and you are a fair bit older than me.

the second time went more smoothly, i started going to those weekly appointments which i think you're referring to. at first we worked on stuff like identifying our skills, strengths and weaknesses, how to make a good impression on an employer at an interview and how to ask questions in those situations...i would expect those kinds of things when you go next week. beyond that, i haven't a clue as i eventually landed a job (on my own) that summer, and i didn't have time to keep going to the weekly meetings there anyway.

they might eventually contact some employers whom they believe might have a job suitable for you, but it's up to you to follow up with them. this is after having gone to meetings for a while, and they know you.

well, good luck....let us know how it goes. :thumright:
