I haven't watched all of the films, but for now my favorite is Aliens.

Boiled down I see Alien as a supremely effective haunted house, Aliens is a perfectly executed wasp's nest, whatever that means... I felt the only direction they could take it was in a different one if they wanted to do it justice, because the first movie was damn near flawless, they actually compliment eachother.

I went with the original Alien, which was one of the finest - and scariest - scifi-horror films ever made.

This feels like a kind of complex question to me, I might write first to get some of my feelings out. Right out of the park, I think that I will disqualify both Alien3 and Resurrection, the feel like they were largely movies that had so much interference that they don't compare to the rest.

Alien is great in the plain horror way, while Aliens is great for the added action, in ways they are both kind of perfect. Earlier I might have even just fallen straight into saying Aliens, what couldn't be great about more of them and a better look. But I think more recently I might have come to respect the original Alien for what it did, I don't think anything can match the vent scene in that movie.

Now maybe a popular opinion is to hate on Prometheus, and I think in extension Alien Covenant, people have a lot of problems with it, but I am not in that camp. To risk not coming off as too elite, it kind of looks like people can be too dumb for those movies, and that includes calling the people as being dumb while not thinking from the character point of view. Now after watching Covenant a number of times, I think that it might be my favourite, because I think it really clicked this sort of horror of not just the monsters. After watching, I think I have come to see a sort of respect of not focusing on just Xenomorph, which the series kind of continued to do out of Ridley Scot's hands.

Aliens.

3 and resurrection were the low points for me. I did like prometheus, or some of the body horror scenes at least. I like it.

Alien and Aliens are the only ones that are good. Everything else sucks.

Voted for Resurrection. Mostly because of the humour in it, Ron Pearlman is hilarious.

I liked Prometheus since it had a nice story, and when i was younger i liked Alien II because of the whole "lets go down and kick alien butt" mentality and it was the first in the series i saw in the cinema as a teenager. Alien feels too ancient, Alien 3 had a boring setting and while i haven't seen Covenant, i haven't heard any good things about it.

As for the whole Alien Vs Predator crossover with the Predator universe - loved it, Requiem is currently the best one.
