I feel discouraged...
I have no idea, I'd only be guessing. I have no idea what his income is nor expenses. Maybe it goes on fast food/convenience food. I have no idea if he drinks or uses any substances. But I have a feeling that like many aspies, if his phone/tech is destroyed he'll replace it before spending money on food/medicine/clothing, so that could be a thing, replacing phones and tablets etc. Again, though, I'm only speculating based on his posts. Maybe he spends most of it on insulin for all I know.
It would be very interesting to know, though. But that would be up to ASS-P to share. I kind of wish he would, though, so we could have a better understanding of what his income & expenses are, what his budget is or could be for things he needs and wants. I'm not an accountant & never will be, but I have taken accounting classes in business school. Most of us could probably analyze his finances with ease and determine if he truly has no resources to pay for things he needs or if he's inadvertently being wasteful with what money he does have & could better utilize it. For those reasons I think it would be really quite cool if ASS-P did disclose his income/expenses and we could have a quick look and see if there are obvious areas for improvement.. but all of that would be for moot if he wasn't interested in learning & improving.
I kind of think most people who spend money on things that make them unhealthier know damned well that if they didn't do that & spent it on things that made them healthier instead that they'd be better off for it - but due to their impulsive nature they're simply incapable of properly handling their finances no matter how hard they may try. In fact, I know this. I lived it. When my symptoms were strong, despite my business school education, I made massive financial mistakes and ended up $110,000.00 in debt & bankrupt. ~6 years later, now, I've seen my accounts shoot up to more than that in the black on the best days for my investments. I've gotten my symptoms under control well enough to make much smarter financial moves. Soooo, even if we were to successfully collaborate on a budget to help ASS-P out with, I don't believe he'd be able to execute it as planned w/o someone else actually being in control of his money for him - which he's refused at any attempts by outside organizations that help people like him with things like that. I think it'd all be wishful thinking and the only value to the exercise would be for us to understand how truly destitute ASS-P really is, or isn't, depending on what the numbers tell us and what he spends his money on.
I think that what you describe is in all probability what the people in SF were proposing--to simply help him better manage his money--and he took it as them trying to confiscate all of his income. I think he would violently oppose any attempt by anyone with advice on budgeting and etc.

Yep, I think you're right. I think that "Hot Team," could have been very helpful, but ASS-P perceives it as an assault on his independence - taking away what little he has control over. I doubt he'd ever allow any of them to help him.
At least here, though, we can write these things and ASS-P can read them & then he knows that if he has any interest in advice on managing his income he's free to ask for it here and people can and will crunch the numbers and offer helpful advice. Maybe it would help him, maybe he would follow some of it. The nice part is that none of us would ever be able to manage his money for him if we wanted to, so he doesn't have to worry about that. He can just read advice and then either act on it or not at his own discretion.
But I doubt he'll do any of that.

It would still be great if he can get some sort of apartment for people with chronic diseases. Maybe they'd take about a third to half of his SSDI money. He'd have the freedom to come and go as he wishes. He can even have friends over to discuss comics or something, since there would, at least, be a bathroom in the hall, if not his own en suite bathroom so he can be cleaner. He doesn't have to smell like roses---but at least he wouldn't smell that bad when he has access to a consistent shower and laundry facilities.
He gets his money weekly, from some payee, who puts it in some bank account from which he gets his debit card He once said he gets money five times a month. I believe he gets in the neighborhood of $125-150 a week. It seems as if this "payee" gets something from his monthly check.
Once he gets this apartment (hopefully near a beach or college), he could partake of the college campus, since he won't look "homeless" any more because of the shower and laundry facilities.
I just don't see how they can allow a person in his condition to be "fully homeless."
@ASS-P. Are you on SSI or SSDI?

How do you house someone who has no interest in cooperating with anyone in order to house them?
That's why they're called "hard to house," here. People who would rather stay on the streets & use their meagre incomes to fuel drug and alcohol addictions rather than have a roof over their head.
Currently, there aren't enough public resources to simply buy/build/rent homes for everyone who's in need, even if they're willing to be housed. Pretty sure it would cost less to provide homes & stability than it does to pay for police/first responder trips & hospital visits. Maybe in the future our governments will decide to spend more money on housing for those who can't do so themselves in order to save taxpayers money on other costs. But until then..
Also, within institutionalizing someone & shackling them to a wall, how do you go about housing someone who refuses to be housed? Not saying ASS-P is necessarily one of them, but there are many homeless people like that.. that even with the resources available they simply cannot be helped. The vast majority of homeless people here are Not like that, though, and would jump at the chance of better living conditions.

I will say this: Ass P does NOT strike me as a heroin or crack addict or anything of that sort.
