Kinda lonely after Breakup
So my GF for 3 years dumped me 6 months ago. Those 3 years were probably the best time of my life. It was serious, I thought she was the one to marry. but she phoned me and said although she "still loves me she sees no future with me" quote on quote.
Well I got over it within 2 weeks, pretty quickly. But honestly she wasn't only my significant other, she filled so much in my life, suddenly there's a huge hole - I knew a lot of people thru her and known her family which is pretty big and had dinners and was even invited to events and hangouts with her friends. I don't have friends "of my own" and just parents and a 1 grandma as family, so naturally now I am lonely as hell.
Most of the people who I was in touch with whom were introduced thru her quickly faded away after breakup, and I feel deeply lonely right now. I don't need direct advice, cause no offence but no matter what I write here nobody knows me personally or my situation as a whole but if people could write here similiar life experiences maybe I could come up with something that would help me or learn from - either way is good.
I think it's quite similiar to what once happened to me... I had a friend who I had some common friends with, that friend and I got in to a fight and were no longer friends, so our common friends ended up "picking sides." Most picked "her side" instead of mine... it's not like either of us had done anything horrible or something; our differences were about too different world views... I think. In a way it did get a little lonely when they ditched me... how did I get over it? Well, aside from spending more time with my other friends I mostly just used logic. My logic was that I didn't ask them to pick a side, that I would have been fine with them still being friends with us both yet they still decided to pick a side, her side, so I came to the conclusion that sooner or later they would've ditched me anyway and that it was better then than later 'cause had it been later it would've probably hurt more. I just use pure, cold logic in these situations as much as I can.
Still thought, why do people always insist on having to pick a side in these situations? I can understand it if the other person has done something horrible, like abused, used the other person's savings or lied to them, but if they just can't get along... seriously, what's the point? What's the logic? Is there someone here who have good enough knowledge about social rules that they'd know the answer?
Man I wish I could travel, I mean, I could def do it physically and financially but I study 5 days a week and do some paid work at uni here and there in my free time... But finding a new activity is a must for me. Besides I do think Traveling, shopping etc is like self medicating which is supposedly bad for these situations.. It's like binge eating for that matter. I mean, I've gotta do something for my own fun/enjoyment... I live alone with 1 flatmate whom I don't get along with which just deepens my loneliness if you get me..
Since I have very limited time on my schedule it would be for the best if that was a weekly thing that involves people. I have 2 good friends (the only ones) in my folks' town (I live far away so yeah near no family and friends) so they suggested I would try Salsa dancing as they had, but frankly I don't like dancing that much. I know it's a good way to meet new people but I won't enjoy the activity itself so no point I guess
And in my case man it wasn't "picking sides". Nothing, connections just faded away.. fast...
Any ideas for other activities that people with busy schedules can do to meet new people?
