Uncle ruined my holiday.
The problem isn't really that he refuses to stop using it when he visits. He doesn't use the products when he visits any more. The problem is that the smell gets into everything like cigarette smoke. All the clothes he wears, including jackets, absorb the smell and it won't come out unless they're properly washed. Then on top of that the contaminated clothes can transfer the smell to his suitcase which has also caused problems. So unless everything he brings that has ever come into contact with Axe or other scented products is properly washed I'm going to end up having a reaction to it.
He claimed that he washed all of his stuff specially for this trip. I'm not sure why or how, but somehow his things didn't get cleaned properly, so everything still smelled. And then when he sat in my sister's car and the family room couch, those seats absorbed the smell from his clothes. So the real issue it seems is that he's gotten so used to the smell, that he can't even tell when his stuff still smells like Axe, and for that reason, I can't trust him to be diligent enough about cleaning everything he plans to bring properly.
Another way to think of it is like someone with a peanut allergy that has issues with cross contamination and also reacts to airborne peanut particles. So it would be like someone visits the home of someone with a peanut allergy and had traces of peanuts on their clothes because they weren't properly cleaned. They walk into the house and the person with the peanut allergy starts reacting, and then continues to have problems because the peanut particles have gotten into the furniture and stuff. Though, and I could be wrong, but somehow I think it would probably be easier to clean peanut stuff off of clothes than the get the Axe chemicals out.
So yeah, if he wants to keep visiting in my home, I'm not sure what else can be done other than either giving up those products entirely even when he's not visiting me, or do the ridiculous thing he's done in the past and buy new clothes every time he visits.
