This will not be another reboot, but a direct sequel to the original 1987 film.

Thank the Lord it isn't a sequel to the remake! But who will play the title role?

He already did a Robocop movie, it was called Chappie ;)

But seriously, I hope they don't retcon Robocop 2. I don't know why people hate it so much, it just oozes Frank Miller, and people love him.

...the third movie, however, I can't really defend that one...even Frank himself (or was it the director?) said it was a big mistake to give into pressure to make it more "family friendly".

That's a good question.

During the stages of early production, apparently Sony and MGM wanted a big household name to play the Alex Murphy role, but ended up casting Joel Kinnaman.

While Kinnaman is a very good actor, he is hardly a major celebrity.

I would imagine Sharlto Copley, who played Wikus and Chappie, would be most likely to play Alex.

His face doesn't look too dissimilar from Peter Weller's, either.

If MGM wants for this new film to be better than the remake, then I would imagine MGM would consider all the household names considered to play Alex for the remake; names such as:

-Tom Cruise

-Johnny Depp

-Dwayne Johnson

-Matt Damon

-Michael Fassbender

-Russell Crowe

-Hugh Jackman

-Keanu Reeves
