Feeling so broken

I'm in the top 1/4th of what will probably soon be a top 50 law school (fail just outside of that last year but the rank is expected to go way up because of a perfect bar passage rate and the highest LSAT in school history) yet I still feel like a broken failure. My mind occasionally likes to obsess with finding old friends, and this time I might have actually had some success there but will need to wait a few months for some of the success too, but it got me to thinking how few friends I have right now, online or in real life and it's really scaring me. I am 32, never really worked (though yea in law school), no real friends, been on like a whole 2 dates in my life, maybe 3, I missed basically every big event that I feel like I should have had and some I will never get a chance to do again (won't ever be able to go to prom for example). Right now I just feel so broken and I feel life I need friends right now, something to help me catch up on life.

You’re going to law school and succeeding. You will become a lawyer. You will get dates. Dates are not a determinant of success. Becoming a lawyer is.

Ive had quite a few dates and never went to law school. I’m a clerk who has never been promoted in 38 years. I’m in debt.

I’m not “broken.” Why should you be?

There is this thing called “perspective.”

apparently a classical case of depressive dip. like kraft here said - u are a success. but right now, u are depressed, its a quite common state in interseason. it feels terrible, but it will pass.

Try to remind yourself that everybody is depressed in law school. It's an inherently sucky place to be.

Thanks, it is a depressing place to be... but then again so is the working world as a lawyer where they expect me to get so many billable hours a year. I really need to find a way to work part time and still work enough. I don't think I can handle working full time ever.

My housekeeper has a law degree. She has worked part-time for many years doing legal writing for ... LexisNexis or Findlaw, can't remember which. As far as I know, she has never actually practiced law.

She makes the same money working part-time for me as she does doing the legal writing, so this is not the big bucks. But it allowed her to raise her family and have some interests and other part-time gigs on the side.

In another field, college professors, a friend of mine arranged to job-share at a lesser known university with her spouse, who had a doctorate in the same field, both from Stanford. It wasn't a standard job arrangement, but they leveraged their strong educational background to achieve a lifestyle that was unhurried and gave them lots of freedom.

My point is you need to think outside the box - but it can be done.

I also have known two attorneys who were legally blind. Once again - determination and thinking outside the box.

I am thinking about doing the latter. Masters in sped, juris doctor... Got to imagine that could lead to some sort of job in academia where I can work a little less and have a little more of a life.

P.S. any of these blind lawyers spend a lot of time late at night out fighting crime

Lol I was referencing Daredevil not Batman, but I suppose an aspie Batman would sorta make sense. Very black and white frame of mind... obsessed with justice and bats... needs help to solve simple riddles when they aren't literal... etc lol
