Up until now, my husband was entertaining himself by streaming stuff to his computer and wearing headphones while I either watched TV or messed with my phone looking for jobs, posting on wrong planet, reading Wikipedia, looking at my bird apps etc...

But now my husband went and broke his computer somehow and I can't afford to fix it or get a new one... So now he's streaming his shows to the TV... And has the volume up really loud because he can hardly hear... I still have my phone but he has the TV up so loud it's going to drive me insane I swear...

I hate not being able to get things fixed when they break, this is how I lost my car too

Can you use earbuds with your phone? That would help at least some of the time. Then I hope he will compromise and use the television less often because of your distress.

Regular earplugs will help you, too. Try the eargasm brand.

If you are really going to go insane on account of this, tell your husband he can't use the TV in that manner because it will make you go insane.

Considering all the times you've had emergency hospital visits due to (temporarily) going insane, I'd say it's a plausible outcome; and it does no one any good. So just let him know the loud TV is a no-go.

P.S. If he broke his computer, it's not your responsibility to fix it.

Does your TV have a jack port for headphones somewhere? Maybe it has, it would be worth looking for.

I agree with BeaArthur, the risk of you going insane because of loud TV is something your husband must take into consideration.

my dad has the TV on every single day for hours on end when i want to do stuff and it makes me want to break the TV and beat him to death.

He does have a smartphone to stream stuff on but of course TV screen is bigger.

Anyway he's in the hospital yet again... This time over his heart, keeping him at least overnight for observation.

Hope he gets well soon. When he's back either get headphones for the tv, get the pc fixed(what's up with it?) Or put the subtitles on.

The computer suddenly won't turn on no matter how much you charge it or if it's plugged in.

Anyway I met with my mental health team this morning then went to the hospital to see my husband. The hospital social worker says he needs long term care. I agreed and my husband exploded... He says he's coming home no matter what. My caseworker and my psychatrist told me he's putting too much stress on me and said I need to get a job, take care of myself. My caseworker says she knows people less sick than him in the nursing home. The social worker took me aside, worried about me after how he reacted, and told me if he ends up coming home I need to consider leaving... Now my husband's blowing up the phone since I went home trying to act all nice and sweet....

And actually I applied to two DNR jobs and one (not the Lansing one) called but the lady said it would involve carrying heavy stuff up ladders and it's a seasonal job with no benefits so I declined. But she told me based on my skills the other one would probably call too but to wait cause they are kinda slow in their process. I emailed the other one to follow up and they responded they haven't chosen who to interview yet. My psychiatrist said Michigan Rehabilitation Services (I just started with them) might help if I find an out of town job and I called the guy who will be working with me and he confirmed that, especially if the position is in Michigan.

It seems like every other week, either you or your husband goes into the hospital. This is not the best situation. I don't think you are providing the best care for him - especially if you spend a night in the hospital, or are looking for a job - and I think the stress on you of living with constant uncertainty is not healthiest for you, either.

Work with the hospital social worker to convince him and look for a situation that will be the least upsetting for him. This can be a very difficult discussion for you to have alone, I recommend you have the social worker sit in on any discussions you have with your husband about this. Certain incentives might sweeten the deal for him; if the facility is local, for instance, you can visit every day. I think you have said he's fairly social? He might actually enjoy contact with other people on a regular basis, enjoying music classes or group exercise or cards.

How stressful all this must be for you! I'm impressed that you have continued job-hunting throughout it.

I'm still job hunting! Found a Detroit bird-related job today to apply too... Permanent Part-time (work three days a week on bird programs for Detroit Audubon) low enough income I think that I would keep my medical if they don't provide benefits... Lansing job pays much better though, who knows but this new one is specifically bird related and since the job post mentioned using Facebook I posted a link to my profile... I keep that bad boy good looking by making only bird related posts public and then making personal posts friends-only...
