My dog Benji has been put down. Farewell little rascal

My Min Pin aged almost 13, whom I had since he was a puppy of 4-5 weeks old and rescued from a bad situation, has been put down this evening as his kidneys packed up. He was battling to walk today and my mom and I took him to the vet.

He's at peace now, but the place feels so empty. We had much happiness together and he showered me with unconditional love. He could be a cheeky rascal but one with a heart of purest gold. Be free, my little one, may we meet again someday. We had some wonderful times together and you had a happy life, even if I couldn't always give you everything I wanted to.

I'm glad we had the opportunity to cross paths and be together.

Heart and home feel empty without him, small as he is.

The best is to remember all the fun times we had. Luckily I took photos and a few videos of him while he was still well. May try to post some here at a later stage.

The best thing is remembering all the happy times we shared and his unique quirks which made him so special.

I was really upset when our next door neighbours lost their cat a few weeks ago... Harry the Cat... we used to look after him sometimes and he was great, but he was a venerable ancient cat and his kidneys gave up. I can't even imagine how you must be feeling right now. Remembering the happy times is a good thing.

It always hurts when they leave us. I've been through that many times, and it always hurts.

Yes, it feels very lonely and empty without his unique presence and personality.

He came into my life at a very difficult time as a tiny puppy a few weeks old.

Nothing I can say will make things better but I understand what your going through dude.

It sounds like he was a very lucky dog who had a very good life. I love hearing from responsible and loving pet owners.

I’m so sorry for your loss! I hope you find some comfort in knowing that your family made the right choices in his care so he could have the best quality of life. It’s not easy because they are family.

Thanks everyone! His little bed is empty but will be kept, along with everything else, in case a new pup in need of love comes along - but there will always be a void in the heart until Benji and I meet again. But he would understand. There's no jealousy over the rainbow bridge!

He had a special, cheeky but loving personality. He lived with my mom, but for the past month or so I've been staying with them as my mom had knee surgery and needs someone to help cook etc. So I've seen a lot more of him again, as when he was young, and he loved it. He'd sleep part of the night in his little round bed then join me in the bed in the early hours.

Every time the landline phone rings and no one answers straight away, he would start barking and howling. He knew there was someone who needed answering, or that a visitor might be coming, as visitors to the townhouse complex call the number at the gate. If I phoned from my place and my mom answered after a few or more rings, I'd hear him howling in the background.

You're gutting me! I can't!
