I don't hate myself at all. I just wish I wasn't such an arse sometimes.

Not any more.

After a lifetime of self hatred my diagnosis seems to have finally started me off down the path towards self acceptance. It's a glacially slow process with numerous stumbles and backwards lurches and will probably always be a work in progress. I don't think I'll ever be someone who is out and proud about being autistic nor do I think of autism as my "superpower". I still frequently wish I was not autistic and think I would take a cure without hesitating if one were available. But at least I don't hate myself anymore. Which is a big improvement from just a few years ago.

Growing up, I always thought the family dog got more respect and kindness than I did.

I was proved absolutely right.

Any wonder I’m a hermit?

I first heard this line when I was a (struggling) teenager, and it had a huge impact on me.
It still helps to remember this, in the times when I don't like myself very much and wonder wjhether the world might be better off without me. Which is not to say I hate myself, exactly. It's more that I sometimes wonder if I don't do more harm than good, even when I have the best of intentions.
This helps me remember that I don't need to judge myself; I am who I am, and that is OK.
Thank you for the reminder, Auntblabby.

prego mrs. peel :flower: i want you to be more stubborn than they are. it matters less that sometimes you stumble, it matters more that you keep trying to make at least your corner of the world a better place. that is all any of us can do.

I'd have to say that I'm in a love hate relationship with myself.

auntblabby,

I love Desiderata. Thanks for posting.

As for me, I very much like my life now, but such wasn't the case years ago. I have a long way to go, but I do have a good life.
