searching for topics by date

I want to be able to type in a topic in the search button and get current and recent posts. I have typed things in the search button but all I get are posts listed several years ago on that topic. Is there a way to get only recent ones? To search for things in a specific topic and limit it so I am only shown those ones done this year or this month or something like that?
