My biggest problems in school were 1) falling asleep in class 2) Competition makes me do poorly, not better and 3) I'm afraid to commit to anything.

As for how I coped with it, I excelled in the public schools, taking the lectures to heart, not feeling a social obligation to avoid the teachers, and learning to love studying, or at least the concept parts of studying if not the homework part. Once I reached college, where it truly became a competition, only those willing to fight allowed to stay in school, dog eat dog to avoid disdain by your superiors, and bill collectors beating on the door, I freaked out, had a few breakdowns, couldn't do homework from shaking too badly etc etc. After getting a C/D average for a year (from a 4.11 GPA in high school) I ran out of money and fled my oppressive parent, to my less than oppressive parent, and started going to a city college.

In the city college I coped with it by getting financial aid, and taking things on the philosophy that I want to learn more, not develop social standing or prestige. It went well until the recent budget cuts, and my large amount of units, gave them reason to remove me from financial aid entirely. I have no money myself so... that was pretty much the end.

Now I cope with it by missing school a whole lot... and looking for a job when I can work up enough resolve. So I guess you could say I 4-star failed at coping in school, though in my opinion it's them that failed me.

I've stopped going to high school this april. It was only a matter of time before I would break down. I am extremely oversensitive to teachers and children, and tests and everything that has something to do with school system, mostly :)
I am good with computers and programming but all the other kids do is watch porn in computer lab and play race games.

So those teachers treat other kids like some kind of less worthy human beings. One of the nazi-teachers even said she is "paid to torture us", while another made me stand in front of the class for half hour for some silly thing, that's reward you get by being silent like a mouse all the time.

Anyway, I still have some time to save this school year and if I don't then I probably wont ever leave my house again. :D

Sorry to hear you had to quit going to school. Like you, I didn't enjoy the schools I went to either. I was a good student for the most part, but the problem I had is the schools didn't put academics at the top and often tried to force socialization.

My first problem in high school was refusing to participate in a school sponsored hazing in which freshmen students were humiliated for a whole week by seniors. As a result, I basically was looked down upon by the other students and ridiculed because of it. I also refused to participate in other social activities such as dances, going to football games, etc. I wanted to go to a school that put learning first and foremost, which most of them didn't seem to do. Even the high school's administration gave me a bad time for not participating in hazing and social activities. I can remember an incident in class in which some seniors burst in and yelled "Air raid," which meant freshmen were supposed to go to the floor and pretend to shoot at planes. I just sat in my desk as always while everyone else went to the floor. The result was I got sent to the counselor's office where I was basically told I would suffer if I didn't start allowing seniors to haze me. Nice to know the school didn't care about providing me an enviornment conducive to learning. This was a private school believe it or not.

My advice would be not to give up on your education. There are alternatives out there you should explore in getting your education. Someone already suggested homeschooling. That option has gotten very popular and there are homeschooling organizations all over the country, most of which are onilne. There may be one in or near your area that would help you get started. They can help you find a curriculum, give advice on the legalities, etc. Run a search on home schooling and your city or state name in Google or another search engine should help find one.

There are also approved correspondance courses available in some areas. In which your teachers would send you your lessons in the mail, grade them when you send them back, and if you need help, provide consultation over the phone. The only other thing you would have to do is go to a test center, which might be at a college, school board office, etc., to take exams.

Online education is also an option. To find out how to find good online education, check out http://www.degreeinfo.com. There's alot of information about online education there and most importantly, how to tell the good from the bad.

I wish the options that are available now had been available when I was in school. Things might have been better for me if they had been.

Good luck to you and keep us all posted on how you are doing.

I get good grades, and I take some CP classes; I have taken CP English in both my Freshman and Sophomore year, but they wouldn't let me take any other CP classes this year because my schedule was too full; I'm taking CP American Lit. next year. Also, it's because I'm in this special ed. program to help me with social skills around the classroom, which annoys me sometimes because I know I could have taken some more advanced classes. It's okay, though, because I'm taking some classes that didn't fit onto my schedule on the computer, and I'm getting a little ahead. I will also have to take a correspondance health class because at our school, if you take band, you can't fit health on your schedule.

I go a fairly small (extremely small for my area) private school. Most of the classes, especially the ones I take, are extremely rigorous and the teachers demand a lot. But they're also willing to work with students like me outside of class if we need some extra help with a concept or have questions about the homework. My smallest class, which was physics, had 10 people (the smallest they allow at my school) and the largest (Spanish 4) had 26. Most, however, had between 15 and 18 people.

If public or private schools don't work, homeschooling might be a good option. I would be careful, however, that problems at home (as in parents getting frustrated with their children and vice versa) do not turn into problems at school. This was the main problem with me when I was a kid.

Thankfully, the school I attend is more academically-related. I don't get the best grades, but I pass all of my classes, which is quite a feat considering the classes and my qualifications, especially in science. ;)

I do exceptionally well even though most of my work is a half arsed attempt. I get incredibly good marks for something I did in a few minutes and I am happy.

My grades are pretty good, usually A's, but when I went from my junior high (awful place!) to my high school (the best thing that ever could've happened to me), I had a LOT of difficulty adjusting and understanding the teachers' instructions, but I had friends and teachers who actually cared about my education.

I had a terrible time with sensory overload and, near the end of the year, my whole left side kept getting numb or hurting, but that's only happened once during summer. Also, I kept remembering stuff that happened a couple years ago at the old school, and I was pretty much in an anxious state, but it was an IMMENSE improvement such that I felt elation every day I went to school, even if I forgot about an assignment.

In seventh grade, it was so bad with the counselors not doing anything to stop the boys from my art class from hurting me that I kept trying to get my mom to get me homeschooled, and I once tried to skip to a language class (Japanese) in the middle of the year, as I was obsessed with the language and wrote a lot of things in Japanese on my papers. Instead, I just ditched classes to read about physics in the library, came close to failing a few classes for a semester, and got back on my feet the following year with B's and A's.

Although I got a 'D' in English that year, I'm currently enrolled in Literature and Composition II Honors and am taking college-level courses in the creative writing program at my school. Boy, do I love anything resembling irony.

Yay! I cannot wait to get my schedule for classes this year. Hopefully I'll do better than last and hopefully I'll get to know the teachers, too. New teacher for at least one, if not two, of my four actual classes this year. :x

I'm a B- to a C student. Which is good, because if I get at least a C, my folks will pay for tutition.

I do ok (midline C's). Although I try, I can't sit down and study (just too hard for me). If I did actually study, I could prob. get B+'s/A's. Maybee next year? (since I just got switched into a new kind of class thanks to an IEP). Hope so!

This is pretty much the boat I've been during my entire school career. However, since I've gotten into my college major (journalism), my grades have been higher. I guess it's because I'm really interested in what I'm studying.

My mom is generally not happy with C's, but although she's threatened to do so a couple times, she never stopped paying for tuition.
