All sides here are entitled to their opinion being respected. Please stay on topic. It is true there have been multiple topics on the subject, but what the OP intended was to discuss the probability of Julian Assange's being on the spectrum, not whether or not he committed criminal acts.

I request JohnPowell and Fnord to discuss the issue reasonably and not derail thread to avoid it being locked. Personal attacks and off topic posts may be removed at our discretion. We are not taking sides here.

I'd place the probability at around 15%

Are you referring to the chances that Julian A is on the spectrum, or the chances of a reasonable discussion?

Thank you everyone for remaining calm. He is definitely a controversial character. I guess where i live Australia has a lot to do with how i see him. From afar. Remotely. The other side of the world. Not the northern hemisphere. And he is an Aussie after all not that it really matters. I empathise more with what i see as his Aspergian traits. To me he is highlighting both my strengths and my weaknesses to the extreme and doing it on the world stage. I will pray for him.

He's too social to be on the spectrum -- too adept at social manipulation. He easily manipulates people into sympathizing with his "cause". He's more of a narcissistic sociopath than an ordinary autistic person, in my opinion.

Your reasoning is sound, but speaking of social manipulation skills, did you take a look around the forum lately?

It concerns me a lot as it is my pathetic government that is the US's b**ch that illegally removed him from the Embassy and threw him in a dungeon.

If you believe (as I do) that all he is doing is presenting truthful facts to the public then it's not he who is doing the social manipulation but merely the public's reaction to what they see as truth. In my eyes he's not performed any marketing of his cause but simply just shared information that already exists.

Only a person who sees his communication as false would see him as manipulative and I don't see how one could arrive at that conclusion. I don't see any evidence that he is a social person nor any evidence of being anti-social.

May i respectfully recommend the best book i have read about this boy from Oz - Julian Assange: The Unauthorised Biography by Andrew O'Hagan and Julian Assange, Text Publishing, Melbourne Australia 2011. Julian initially agreed to it and recorded hours of tapes but then backed out because he thought it was too personal. What makes it special is it is written in his own voice. It is him speaking. In his idiosyncratic way. It is written in the 1st person. Not in the 3rd person by someone else speaking about him. It touched my heart.

Walrus, please stop repeating things that have been shown to be wrong.

It was the Guardian, that published the password to the cables, not Wikileaks.
I did a large post explaining all this in depth in one of the previous topics on Assange.

Assange and Manning are criminals. Plain and simple. What Manning did against America was treasonous. What Assange did against America was journalistic terrorism. Both deserve life in prison, at the very least.

That's very telling, how can telling *the people*, of the united states, the truth about what their government is doing, be treason against the people?

As for "Journalistic terrorism", now there is a phrase I'm honestly sad to hear emanating from the USA.
It's a complete anti-thesis to everything your country once stood for.

So how did Wikileaks commit "Journalistic terrorism"?
A: They told the USA's people the truth.

@SpiceWolf: The Walrus has requested that I and everyone else in this thread focus on whether or not Assange is autistic, and not on his criminal activities. Deal with it.

SpiceWolf: thanks, I obviously don't know enough about that situation to make an informed comment.

Point of order: that wasn't me, it was Enviro.

Now, speaking as a moderator, it's clear that you have strong opinions on this matter but please treat other users cordially.

Thank you dear moderator for moderating. In Assange's unauthorised autobiography allegedly spoken in his own words, he says he probably does have Aspergers. He thinks all men have it to some degree. I will look up the page reference tomorrow and repost. In bed now and it is freezing in Sydney which according to TV news is in an 'Antarctic vortex'. I can believe that. Brrr!
