I Wish That Life Had Rules

One of the things that I like about video games is that there are always rules that tell you what you can or can't do, or what you should or shouldn't do. It makes characters and events much easier to predict and understand that way. Real life social interactions are a lot harder to get a grasp on. Everyone operates on their own set of rules and standards. There's way too much freedom and unpredictability going on, and it makes me feel exhausted. I wish that life had a set of rules that everyone had to follow, just to make things easier. I'm not talking about religious rules by the way, such as the 10 Commandments, even though I myself am a Christian. I just wish that people were easier to understand.

I feel the same way. It's why I wish I could have been the age I am now, but in the Edwardian era, when there were still standards.

But the rules are double standards, constantly changing, different in different locations, discriminatory enforced, vague and subjective

That's what ettiquette is or was supposed to be for - so that everyone knows what is expected of them in social situations. Very few people know or pay attention to it anymore though.

It depends on the kind of "rules" you're looking for.

Marriage? Dating? Friendship? Working? Maintaining your health? Being an Adult? Owning a Home? Renting a Home? Elementary School? Junior/Senior High School? Undergraduate University? Graduate U? Post-Grad U? Parenting? Being an Artist? Just Plain Living?

While all may have many "rules" in common, each also has rules all its own.
