What do I do about these rats?

I live in a big old rooming house. My landlord hasnt done much but set a few traps. I havent seen them in the kitchen anymore, but hear them in my walls. I told the landlord they were in my walls but he never did anything about it, just the other issues I complained about this month. Anyway today I found rat droppings attached to a box of food on top of the microwave. I dusted the droppings off, sprayed the box of food and top of microwave with cleaning spray. I put the paper towel ith the droppings in the compost, dont know if your supposed to do that or not.

I would like to move somewhere rat free. Maybe my own apartment. But Im worried there might be rats there too and I wont know how to deal with them because I dont know how to set traps and am too scared to set them anyway.

Maybe I should just risk getting disease because I could get them at my own apartment too. I have free wifi here. Is it worth the risk?

Does the government inspect group facilities where you live?

Well I’m sure something would be done about it if I went that far. The landlord would probably know it was me though because I complain a lot

You might consider building your own rat trap. One of the neighbors down the road has a house/barn. The back part of the barn contains horses and the front part of the barn is where they live. It seems to be a magnet for rats. So she built a simple rat trap out of a 5 gallon plastic bucket. The rats in search of food would climb above the bucket and fall in and drown. She would sometimes catch a half a dozen rats each night. When they fell into the water they could not climb out and then they would drown. She would dispose of the dead rats in the morning. It was a simple and effective way to rid yourself of a rat problem. I searched the internet in YouTube to search for a similar design. I found this one. It is similar to the trap that the neighbor had. The video shows a young boy building it from scratch. Pretty easy to construct. One comment I might add is if you fill half the bucket with water, it will kill the rats and rid them from you home forever.

Yes I forgot all about that. Used to do that when I lived in an older house than this one. Good idea. Just hope no one steals the bucket or something stupid like that. I basically live in the public.

The method on the video looks to hard to make for me. We used to just put peanutbutter bread right in the water and it killed tons of mice. I don’t know if it would work that way for rats

There is nothing wrong with giving it a try. You might even keep a logbook of the number you killed and photograph some. This becomes evidence to boost your case that the environment you live in is unsuitable.
