do cows have autism?

or is is it an autistic cow?

Does anyone care for poor Daisy, unable to fit in socially with the herd and having meltdowns at the milking shed with all the loud noises and other cows touching her all the time?

Peta thinks milk causes autism (and that it's a bad thing), so I guess if cows are producing milk must be autistic as well.

In fact why stop there? Any mammal that is lactating must be giving themselves the autism, including women who are pregnant or nursing.

I think I was in a weird mood when I posted this.

I hope that milk doesn't causes autism, but that's not the craziest theory I've ever heard.

Cows, like humans, have a herd instinct.

So if you found a cow that was a loner then that cow might well be an "autistic" cow.

But I doubt that drinking that cow's milk would cause you to be autistic. If that were the case than autistics could be cured of autism by simply drinking milk from normal (herd oriented) NT cows.

Dr Temple Grandin was able to think like a cow - were these cows autistic or NT ?

They were "neurotypical" for cows.

If you go by Temple Grandin's line of reasoning then humans have some kind of mental superstructure built atop our animal mentality. And autistics are lacking in that superstructure, and are thus closer to thinking like animals. I suppose. So all non human animals would then be "autistic" by human standards.

Hopefully Daisy does not have mad cow disease.

Cows are the anti-autistic, really. They are robotically social.

Daisy is probably mesmerized by things the other cows don't notice or care about when they're out in the field, like the clouds looking like shapes in the clear blue sky or the way the breeze makes the grass around her ripple.

Maybe it's like Ferdinand the Bull, and she's happy being the way she is.

(In case you don't already know, Ferdinand is a classic Spanish children's story. The titular character is a bull who is very gentle and peaceful, and when he was a calf all the other little bulls would run, jump and head-butt each other, but Ferdinand loved to just sit quietly under his favorite cork tree, and smell the flowers. The story was made into a Disney cartoon which was really good, and more recently a crappy CGI movie)

The Temple Grandin thing really just makes this unbearably confusing. I seriously do not know up from down in this train of thought.

Grandin was able to think from the cow’s viewpoint. Cows who are NT (from a cow viewpoint).

Well yeah, there seems to be more than a passing association with cows among us but I can't fathom how or why.

Cows are docile beings.

There’s a side of us which doesn’t want discord, just wants us to be mellow.

I just want to say I love the Random Discussions forum. The threads we get here are often so... random.
