Why do threads need to be deleted to change a single word?

Especially if no one has yet replied... most forum software at least allow edits based on that.

The way this website is set up, you have at least 3 hours to edit a post, whether or not anyone has replied. After that, editing requires the intervention of a moderator.

If someone has replied to a post, it cannot be deleted, even if the 3 hours are not yet up.
