I don’t think I will return to college after this course

Beware of vocational technology schools like "ITT Technical Institute" (which is now defunct).  While they do issue Associate's Degrees, their courses are not accredited, and the credits will not transfer to a four-year college.  They are for-profit businesses that make most of their money off of the interest of the loans they so conveniently provide.

I don't mean the "vocational schools."

I mean the Community Colleges--which frequently have vocational courses, and certificate programs, within them.

My father’s pressured me to go to a technical school but I reject it every time he brings it up. He thinks if I worked more than one job that I wouldn’t be depressed but he works only one job and has dozens of mistresses so his advice is hypocritical.

Dozens of mistresses do not equal not being depressed. Hemingway whored his way across several continents and killed himself in 1964.

Working one job and being a whole integrated person is a lot better than being a workaholic with a roving eye. Besides, I thought you said you didn't much cotton to your parents and brothers.

Hemingway passed away in 1961.

It’s true that Marknis listens too much to what other people say about him.

But why is it ok for them to attack me?

Thanks Kraftie for correcting my forgetfulness of when Hemingway passed.

Marknis, it's NOT OK for them to attack you. Even when someone we care about is doing something bad, we are supposed to help them if they let us and avoid them if they resist us. From the case you make they sound like bad people, and they are doing a bad thing by attacking you.

We all are flawed, frail people. It's a fact of life. Even the mightiest of men can be felled by a couple Ebola viruses or saddened by a Dear John letter from his sweetheart. They're not comfortable with seeing imperfections in their own lives (hence hypocrisy; I'm something of a hypocrite myself and know how it works) and since changing their own lives and hearts may be too much work, they prefer to cut down or stretch everyone else on the Procrustean bed of their colossal ego.

Marknis, if you're sad--here's what I think about you. I'm not holding back or playing nice and I very well could be wrong about some or all of this.

I see an ordinary young man with looks that, given a bit of grooming and hygiene, could impress people as a pleasant and wholesome person to be around. I hear the words of someone who maybe puts a little too much thought in being "healed" by finding a girlfriend, but who realizes that people are made to love. I see someone who's intellectually honest enough to question his political allegiances (which is something it would take me a lot of work to do, I'm hardheaded. You're doing better than I in this department for sure!) and who is good at perceiving the world around him--yes, you complain about it, but it sounds awful.

I see someone with some very cool niche hobbies who knows what he wants and will not settle for the status quo. Someone who can't handle religious hypocrisy but remains open to the idea of going back to the church. I see a real, open, honest, thinking MAN, and that's good--flawed, sad, mainly because he's in a tough spot and has been listening to the wrong people.

I also see someone who might benefit from therapy but might also benefit more by going on and getting a job far away from the culture you're steeping in...

In short, I see a brother autistic who probably would surprise himself, and the rest of us, when he ever does get going for real.

You've got what it takes, Marknis. For your revenge I would say to go live an upright, fulfilled life full of the complete gamut of human emotions--not just what your redneck buddies wallow in, like lust, hatred, pride and presumption.

It’s not okay for people to attack you.

It’s usually better to ignore the attacks.

People with Aspergers have fixed, rigid views and we get easily upset by others. We got Aspergers, Aspergers, Aspergers! I hated college and interacting with people at college was just as tedious, annoying and frustrating than high school. Social interactions rarely improve for most of us socially awkward people with Aspergers. Most people will reject or ignore us because we have Aspergers.

People are entitled to express their feelings, even if their feelings are irrational, misguided, baseless or just plain wrong. You know the people who attack you for closed-minded BS reasons are wrong.

It's not really okay for them to attack you, it's just something that neither your nor society is able to really impose sanctions of any sort over.

College now feels like a distant memory to me.
