Complete strangers hating on me?
I have high functioning Autism, but I try my hardest to be a good, respectful person and be nice to people. I'm trying to get people to like me, but no matter what I do, nobody likes me.
I'm subscribed to and pretty friendly with this smaller family vlogging channel on YouTube. They have 3 Autistic kids, so they're pretty understanding of my Autism. I'm friendly with them because I participate in their live streams every day. They know me and that i'm Autistic.
What happened was the mom just had a baby. Not only is the baby a girl, but it's her first daughter with her current husband. She has another daughter, but she's from a previous relationship. Anyways, this morning, they posted pictures of the baby on Instagram and I left a comment saying "Congratulations on your husband having his first daughter!". I got a response saying "It's his SECOND daughter." and my response to that was "No. Her other daughter is his step-daughter.". I then went to work. I didn't think anything of what I said. I thought that what I wrote was okay. That was until I got home from work today and logged back into Instagram. I had gotten up to 20 responses from non-understanding people saying how rude and disrespectful I was for saying what I said, and ALL of the responses were public for everyone to see! One of the responses was "I cannot believe how well you took this!". I was beyond embarrassed and humiliated! I wasn't trying to be rude! I didn't know that what I was writing was rude! All I want is a good reputation, but this incident is not going to get me anywhere! I would've rather the 20 comments been 20 DMs. That way, nobody else can see them and i'd feel less embarrassed.
Anyways, the YouTuber responded to all of the people hating on me letting them know that I have Autism and I most likely wasn't trying to be rude. I need to thank them for not only doing that and defending me from all those cruel people, but taking the time to REALLY get to know me! However, this wouldn't have been the case if I would've posted that comment on a BIG YouTuber's or famous person's Instagram post, for example JoJo Siwa's or Annie LeBlanc's Instagram post. If I ever unknowingly post a rude comment on a FAMOUS person's Instagram post when i'm not trying to be rude at all, especially if the famous person is not Autistic and doesn't even know what Autism is, i'll be downright screwed! What should I do in the situation where I accidentally and unknowingly post a rude comment on a more famous person's Instagram post? A famous person isn't going to stick up for me at all, and if I reply saying that I have Autism, I wasn't trying to be rude and i'm sorry about what I did, absolutely NO ONE will care! If anything, i'll just get more hate even if I apologize! Can I report a comment and have it removed from an Instagram post? Thank you to everyone who helps me! ![]()
In a step-parent situation, the parents will often work very hard to make sure the child feels equal to the step-parent's biologically-related children, so that the child does not feel alienated or "second best". These efforts extend to controlling the language used to refer to the child, avoiding references which emphasize the lack of a biological relation. Insisting that they are their child, and not their step-child, is part of that effort.
I know you didn't intend any harm, you were just being precise with your language, but to the NT folks it probably seemed like you were undermining the step-parent's effort to cultivate a close family tie with the child.
Well I suppose NTs always get an excuse to personally attack someone. The way I see it, those people overreacted, and the OP was probably proud of the husband for having a first biological daughter.
My aunt had 2 children from a previous marriage who lived with her, and her new husband and her were having a baby together last year, and my family made more of a fuss of the new husband because this was his first biological child on the way, even though he was loved by his stepchildren like they were his own. Nobody took offense to it.

You can always apologize if you get the impression you were rude, but yeah most people probably won't care...but then just don't respond to them if they continue complaining. Also people post rude, toxic stuff on youtube comments all the time even on purpose....if you post something that seems rude on a celeb page maybe some people will respond negatively but then things will move on, your post will probably get buried. I mean I bet if someone somehow dug up all the online comments I've made I'd be kind of embarrassed about some of the things I've said.
The big thing is if you have said something rude, or even if it turns out people are trolling you for no reason its best not to respond too much to them or get into online drama. If you really did say something rude, you can apologize but then leave it at that and move on.
