This is very concerning to me, because I live with my elderly grandmother. I've only gone out once in the past three weeks, yet that one occasion has me stressing out over every cough and sniffle. Do my family members have it? What about me?

Logically, I understand that it's very unlikely that I caught it considering that when I went out I only met a few people, all of whom seemed healthy and did not have symptoms.

But being told that it can be spread with no symptoms has me washing my hands like crazy (three to five times, every time I do). It's like having an invisible killer walking around I'm becoming a little paranoid.

Your response and reaction and emotions are actually normal, considering the horrendous bombardment of ‘information’ we are experiencing.
Everyone is intimidated.
Everyone is worried (some frantic) about loved ones with health complications.
What you are going through, what you feel is normal for our current atmosphere of fear.
It’s miserable, but everyone does feel as you do.

Right there with you. My youngest has been coughing and just last night I was coughing overnight. Well, this morning I woke up and no cough. We need a humidifier. Could we have coronavirus? Sure. Is it likely that we have? No. Still, we will not visit with our immunocompromised friend at this time, and if we did we would take the precautions aligned with the risk as you are.

Thank you for taking precautions for your grandmother. Although your risk is not zero, it is low, so perhaps align your precautions with your risk: wash when you touch your bodily fluids, up to two times each. I think the three to five is going beyond the 90% physical helpfulness threshold and into the 90% psychological --- which means you have fears and discomfort to address, which you are doing here.

You are handling this well, considering!

All one can do is take the precautionary measures and do the best that we can do. Be sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds and watch this video if you want to know why that is important.
