This Aspie guy from Norway has a blog where he is critical of the notion that Aspies can ever hold jobs other than mowing lawns and sweeping streets, getting any higher education, learning how to drive, having stable relationships and getting married.

I am offended by this guy’s views but yet I feel he might be telling the truth.

Check out the careers forum. This site has plenty of aspies who can do all of those things.

That's not true. I work in an office in the IT department. Interestingly, there's a number of people I work with who have some mild Asperger's traits. So I highly disagree with the fact that aspies can't find a "real" job. Sure, they may never be lawyers or doctors, but IT work is just as real.

Yeah, I know. It's sad. I've tried before to reason with him and point out that I've managed to have successful relationships, but he is so steeped in self pity and denigration that he wouldn't hear of it.

It certainly is possible for people with Aspergers to have careers, successful relationships and children, but it is usually a lot harder for us than most. I don't blame some people for getting despondent about their chances. Also, as in most other things, a certain degree of luck is involved, too.
