I was a bit reticent in the post above about sharing this, but I’ve decided to do so since it might be irresponsible not too: I don’t know how well it aligns with what you’ve got in mind, but here goes:
When I was at uni we had a site visit to a Buddhist monastery in a Victorian mock-castle on the moor above Todmorden in West Yorkshire (architecture course).
We were given a guided tour of most of the place by one of the monks: the highlight he saved to the end was the cell of a, now deceased, monk who had, he told us, achieved enlightenment.
It was in the tower over the entrance: a large room with all the windows boarded over. Inside this another smaller room had been constructed from multiple layers of thick chip-board. With no windows: this was where the enlightened monk had lived after his achievement of that goal.
The door had a heavy lock.
On the outside.
Like I said, I don’t know what exactly you have in mind: but I felt that my conscience wouldn’t leave me alone if I didn’t share the anecdote. I’ve never been exactly sure what to make of it.
interesting...that guy must have been along with his thoughts for inconceivably long
he has probably removed most of his most pestilent delusional thought patterns before, but being alone with my own mind if kind of the opposite of what i'd like right now. the thing is, i have demons in my mind. my biggest success in chasing them away, if only temporarily, was managing to move out of home and to WA.
i guess what i'm trying to say is that i want to get out of my head and stop all my horrible thoughts being about "me me me" or throwing self pity-parties, for gods sake, i can't be happy for myself, how can i be happy for someone else?
if it ever ends up mattering at all
i think you guys know what i mean, FFS i end up regretting most of what i post here impulsively, nowadays. i find it's easier to stay away entirely
maybe "ego death" isn't the best way to put it, but it's the term that came to mind first, another member mentioned being "free of delusions", that seems like something which would be nice. lord knows i have a lot of those

I don't know, even ancient buddhist only went as far as to claim that they were "close to having no delusions". The ones who went further than that were ridiculed.
Is there anyone that you uphold who has explicitly made that claim?
i see. not really.

how do i destroy my ego once and for all?
Ketamine, lots of ketamine.
do you have personal experience?
i'll say that i've heard the term ego death used most often in the context of psychedelics which i'ce dabbled in. not sure if the feelings they give is the same but it is a great feeling i wand to have more of.
