My father and stepmom have been snowbirds for a long time, with a summer home up here in western NY, and a winter home in Florida. My father passed away a couple of months ago down in Florida, but he'd been having some serious health issues for a couple of years, and was not doing too good when they left here last fall. Anyway, my stepmom had delayed her migration north for several weeks, due to the Covid19 virus, but finally set out early this week, and should be arriving back up at their summer home sometime later today. One of her sons has been staying with them in Floriday while recovering from a health crisis of his own, and he is coming up here with his mother, as he still needs some looking after. Because he has been having trouble getting around, my stepmom has been letting him use my father's rolling walker. I'm glad that my stepbrother is getting some use out of it. I have one of my own, that I just bought a couple of months ago, and it's a big help. It's better than the two canes I've been using for several years.
My stepmom is planning a memorial get-together for my father, probably on the Fourth of July. Don't know if I'll go. Depends on how things go with the Covid-19 virus. I have a lot of step relatives up here, so there's a greater chance of catching something at a big family gathering. I'm over 60, and have a lot of health issues, so I'm in the high risk group. Due to my health issues I rarely go out, so I've been socially isolating for years. I don't mind being alone because I'm an introvert, so it hasn't been a problem for me that way, but I do occasionally attend family gatherings. I may be going to my step moms house in June for my birthday. In previous years we usually went out to eat, but with this Covid-19 virus going around, I'd feel safer having a small gathering at her house instead. My parent's summer home has a great view from their living room and their back deck, so I'll be able to enjoy that along with the meal and the company while I'm there. Sometimes I see wildlife out in their yard, and there's always a good view of a nearby lake, so I expect to have a good time on my birthday. Now that I have my new rolling walker I'll be able to get around their place better, too.
