I just finished binge-watching 'The Promised Neverland' on Netflix. Since there was other stuff I was suppose to be doing, I'm going to credit the action to 'burn-out'.
I don't quite know how to build a life around myself that includes the fact that when I push myself too hard (particularly socially), I stop co-operating with the world for a time. 'Return' requires escaping into a very particular style of fantasy for a time period that I can not predict.
The rest of the world tries to teach me techniques for dealing with challenge and stress: 'Lean into it', 'Feel the burn'. They don't work for me. My sister said recently, 'They don't respond to stress in the same way you do.'
Can anyone relate?

I can relate. After I experience some kind of stress or I'm in some kind of burn out I will often escape into a TV show or special interest. Usually I'll binge watch something familiar I haven't seen for a while or listen to upbeat music. Other times I will get involved in reading about certain topics I'm really interested in. I also lose track of time quickly as I feel like I'm escaping into somewhere better especially if I start binge watching something that I find really entertaining.

I used to live by the "feel the burn" saying when it came to stress before I learned I was autistic. I never crashed and my senses were in overdrive and after the stressful events I would just pick up another project or find ways to keep my mind going assuming stress normal or it gave me more mental strength. This was a terrible way to live and I don't know how I got through it.

It's really important to manage stress in a way that works for you. Sayings like "feel the burn" and "lean into it" may work for some people and certain situations, but it doesn't work for everyone or all stressful situations.

Thanks! It's nice to know I'm not the only one. :D
