I don't know why the stores are bothering with Christmas this year. Personally I think they are wasting their money. In a lot of stores and shops that I've been to lately they've already got a whole section of Christmas decorations and gifts, just like any other year. I mean, really? Are people going to be crowding to the shops to buy Christmas stuff when there are all these restrictions in place? Are people really going to want to entertain on Christmas day when we probably won't be allowed to see our families? Are people going to have the money to buy Christmas things when a lot of people have lost their jobs this year? And the people who do decide to give into the stress of Christmas this year will probably prefer to do their Christmas shopping online rather than gathering to the shops and spreading the virus.

Personally I am not doing Christmas this year. Because I don't go online to buy things, I don't want to face going out to the shops. So I'm only buying people gifts on their birthdays instead. I do feel sad at the thought of not buying people Christmas gifts this year, but it does take a lot of stress off of me. I find looking in shops hard these days because of not being able to stand too close to people and not being allowed to browse (there's a rule in some shops to only touch something if you're going to buy it). And I think there might be a lot of queuing outside of each shop in the freezing cold, and I ain't doing that.

Anyone feel it's not worth bothering with Christmas this year?

I think we'll do what we did last year, which was just the two of us with our cats. It was nice.

I do enjoy walking around shops during Christmas time because I like the holiday displays and music, so it sucks to not be able to do that. I often end up purchasing online, but I really miss being able to touch items in-store. It makes it a lot harder when it's all online. Plus, they often have so many soft things (like cozy blankets and socks) for sale during Christmas time that are nice to touch. It sucks.

There is not much choice.  It is sad to know that the yearly family gathering will not happen this year; sadder still, because we have lost some of our members since last Christmas, and it would be nice to reminisce and pretend that they are really just "in the next room" and not gone forever.

^ Sorry to hear about that

I think I’ll stick to online shopping for both decorations (if we need any new ones) and presents. My grandma probably won’t be coming, so during Christmas dinner, we’re thinking of putting one of our iPads at her chair and connect via Skype/Zoom/WhatsApp so we can all still see each other and chat.

I actually have my hopes up for this Christmas. My sister works in restaurants and such, so she sometimes works during the holidays too, but if the virus is still active at that time, she's way more likely to join the rest of the family. And if the virus is active during the new year too, maybe we'll have our first new year's celebration with the entire family in years! My sisters tend to be with their friends or at work during the time, but if Covid 19 is still knocking at people's doors...

Of course, this is all assuming that the situation won't get so bad that people can't even see family if they don't live under the same roof.

Like the Puritans that landed in New England over 400 years ago, I don’t celebrate a holiday the Christian church purloined from the pagans. My brothers deemed me persona non grata almost 10 years ago after mom died. Besides, the crass commercialization of Christmas is enough to make me puke.

Like I’ve done for the past few years, I’ll lock myself in my apartment, and sit in silence, since Jesus is the reason for the season (even if Biblical scholars haven’t the foggiest idea when he was born.)
