Stickies ???

I was just curious... what makes a post a "stickie" and why and for how long ??? Why do some forums have more stickies than others ??

There sticky forever till some moderator turns the sticky off. I personally do not like the concept of stickying a thread but I'm not losing sleep over it either.

Still what qualifies it as becoming a sticky ??

Stickies are usually what moderators think are important topics/posts.
