When I was 12, I went to see a movie where the devil was this sexy lady.

Not sure if it was scary/sexy or not but my dad walked out in disgust & said 'this should be a 15 not a 12'.

In terms of what affected me - any panto from before I was 6. I learnt when I was 4 that someone's uncle was King Rat in Dick Wittington. I didn't treat it like he was an actor, I treated it like he was a drug dealer... I was 'I know that's your uncle but don't trust him...'

And I secretly watched porn when I was 11 in my room. To this day, those are my standards for porn: fun, nobody getting hurt, narrative led, nice colours. It was all on channel 5 every night.

Around the same time, mum was horrified I was watching Talking Heads (not sure why) and I kept Grease 2 a secret from her cos nearly every song in it is about sex.

Bloody Mama at the drive -in with the family.
I was maybe eleven or not quite eleven. I found parts of it disturbing.

Space aliens scared me far more than anything else.

Was that the movie where the aliens are drinking from straws that are attached to pink cocoons with people inside? Or was that killer clowns from outer space? I can't remember. Well that scene scared me, had nightmares about. Watched whichever it was with my bro, think I was about 8-9.

Also, fire in the sky gave me nightmares. Don't remember how old I was, but afterwards my mom was like "I dont think that was appropriate for you to watch, sorry." She was right. Interesting that both were about aliens.

wow...late night channel 5...brings back memories of me sneakily entering a 4hour vhs, setting it to long play, and letting it tape overnight.

It may well have. But like I’m saying, it was a second-run theater. Which in practice often means double-features, such as grouping a movie with its sequel, or two films by the same director.

My whole family saw this crappy and disturbing movie around 1975.

I saw loads of stuff I was technically to young for but the only one I can remember really affecting me was something the TV guide described as a film about werewolves tearing people's throats out. All I can remember of it was the camera chasing a woman down a dock or something. No idea why that one in particular scared me so much. Anyone know the name?

That was indeed Killer Klowns From Outer Space (where my profile pic comes from). The cocoons were candyfloss.

Thanks. And I thought your profile pic looked familiar but couldn't place it. So random :D

those stupid cocoons made me not want to eat cotton candy for years. it would remind of the movie and make me nauseous. Lol. Seriously not cool. 8O but I guess that makes it a good horror movie, it stuck with me.

Also OutsideView, I see the quote at the bottom of your posts is from haunting of hill house. What did you think of the series? I loved it. One of the best suspenseful, supernatural shows I've seen in a while.

One of the things I like about Killer Klowns is how it still manages to look gory and horrible without showing any actual gore.

I haven't managed to watch it yet! It's one of my favourite books and films (the old one not the new one) but we have a two-year-old who doesn't go to bed until we do and it might be scary for her. Glad to hear it's good, the trailer looked like something I would definitely enjoy. I should start a new thread about things I can't watch because my daughter is too young to see them ha ha ha :-)

OutsideView if you get the chance I would watch the Netflix series. It was much better than I expected. I really liked how throughout the show you see how each person was affected by their time in the house years later.
And yeah, I dont think it'd be good for a 2 year old :D

Also, the new Netflix series haunting of bly manor was pretty good too. Its based on the turn of the screw. To me it feels like fanfiction and added more story than the original. Henry James is one of my favorite authors so it was interesting to watch how others perceive his work.

I'll have to add that one to the watchlist too, thanks for the recommendation! I've only ever seen a play of "Turn Of The Screw".
