I'm feeling so isolated and panicky with this ongoing pandemic. I have a feeling these vaccines aren't going to make a jot of difference. In the UK there are still hundreds of people a day dying from COVID and thousands of new cases, despite being in lockdown since Christmas AND over 20 million people been vaccinated.

I really want to see my mother. She has cancer and we don't know how long she has got left. I want to see her and cuddle her. I want to spend time with her. This pandemic is taking that away from me. And I'm expected to be calm and not express angry thoughts about China for starting all this.

I know they're easing some of the restrictions next month but I suppose a kajillion people will come down with COVID again and the country will go back into lockdown. I'm fed up with living like a communist country in a country that's supposed to be democratic. It's all a f*****g dictatorship. They let people bring new strains into the country from Africa that just prolongs the lockdown yet I'm not allowed to go and see my own mother.

That really sucks you can’t see your mom. :( I don’t know what to say. I’m tired of this too. There were a few cultural things in my town that I participated in sometimes and I miss going to those places. There was a sense of community there. Can’t do that anymore because of Covid. :(

Only one of the “new strains” is from Africa. Southern Africa.

I agree. You should be able to see your mother. Especially if she’s been vaccinated.

She has been vaccinated. But for some reason I still don't feel like she's protected, as the government still seem to be treating it like the vaccines don't exist.

The heartbreaking thing is she keeps breaking down because she's missing me so much. Yes I do call her every day and we have a chat, and yes that is keeping us both sane. But I still want to physically see her in the flesh. I'm also worrying about my grandmother. She's the only grandparent I have left and this lockdown has affected her health. She doesn't have internet access and she's not been getting out or seeing people. She's been shutting herself away for a year because she has been terrified of COVID, and she's had the vaccine now but is still terrified because of the way the government is still keeping everyone in lockdown like they think the vaccines aren't going to work or something.

I’m so glad you at least get to call your mom. Would there be any way to do a video chat with her? I’m sorry if I’m not much help. I know these are hard times. :(

Video chat is not the same. I want to be able to see her and spend time with her.

No only one. The next shot is in a few weeks.

If she didn't have cancer I would be more patient with this lockdown situation, but it's so scary when you don't know how long someone has got left. I have such a mixture of emotions.

Hugs, Joe.

I know it's been a living hell for you. You're almost there!

I always loved that story......even as a virtual toddler.

It was read frequently at Romper Room School.

It is really understandable to be exhausted, frustrated and angry about it. But it does not help to just think bad shots of China. I mean reality check...yes the virus started there it was not an intentional creation, the government there then was not very good about handling it and weren't all the way transparent about it. But all that said even if their government had behaved appropriately that still would not have stopped it....it would have only made people more prepared for it.

So if anything it's even ok to be angry at their government but just be careful not to fall into xenophobia and be angry with chinese people like they couldn't have stopped the virus anymore than you can. So yeah like it is ok to feel the way you do...just try and veer away from falling into xenophobia and angry feelings on people from where they are from as a result of it. If anyone is to blame for this not being dealt with yet it's various governments not the regular people who are just trying to get by like you. I mean there are probably even a lot of people in china that are angry with their government for their handling of it, it's just harder for them to speak out about it since they don't really have freedom of speech.

Other then that all I can say is to try not to despair, like there is an end to this...and it won't last forever.

I don't live in the same town as my mother, but I'm worried about traveling in case we'll get stopped and fined. It will just be our luck. I don't know if people are allowed to travel outside their towns yet or not.

Thanks IsabellaLinton for the nice picture.

@Sweetleaf - I'm not angry with Chinese people. I have a friend who's Chinese and I would never take it out on her. I'm not the sort to have negative bias on a whole group of people just because of one thing. I say I hate China, I mean the Chinese government (as I do think there is more to this than an innocent mistake). Not the Chinese people. I have as much sympathy for them as I do the rest of the world.

You still have to stay within your town, unfortunately.
