"Playing the game" is exactly what I'm talking about. How did you miss that?

I didn't miss it. As long as you're taking 'cancel culture' seriously you're playing into the false narrative aka 'the game'

Acting like an a**hole has always had consequences.

I don't think taking it seriously is playing into "the game." Its understanding the serious ramifications of the movement. It's an assault on the free exchange of ideas, which historically, has been the most effective way of moving us forward as a species.

I see it as a form of authoritarianism, which never works.

We disagree with it must be because we are sheep or too old.

Off Topic
With all the reckoning about prejudice and bigotry ageism remains widely acceptable. With Andrew Cuomo, the sexual harassment and assault have pushed his decision to put old COVID hospitalized patients in nursing homes to the background. No call for impeachment or resignation until the sexual stuff. As bad as the sexual stuff is and it is bad it is not as bad as making a decision that killed tens of thousands of people

Canceling and censorship is bad no matter if is done by the right as been done historically or by baby boomers.

I agree with funeralxempire about one thing, conservatives in general and me sometimes are too often getting distracted by petty stuff like cartoons. If they do not like where woke is taking us they should focus on the important gains woke has made. By focusing on the petty stuff we are falling right into the trap set for us.

This brings up an important question that is probably unanswerable but I will ask it anyway.

What is more, desensitizing the casual cartoon violence I grew up as a young child I grew with or the more graphic video game/social media material of today. The social media stuff has desensitized teens but children's material is less violent. That may not mean young children are not exposed to less they can get the graphic material from their parents' TV or the material they download on their computers without the parents noticing.

I am starting to think cancel culture isn't really a thing and it just basically means being held accountable for your actions. Losing followers or supporters or subscribers. A company deciding they no longer want to work with you or represent you. Someone decided to let you go because they don't want their job to look bad with you working there because of something you posted online. All of these things have always happened but back then it was easier to get away with without social media and lot of people didn't carry movie cameras around to capture it and put it online for the whole world to see.

True. But also: a stupid remark, a bad taste joke etc. Used to be just that. Now they sre like a crminal record that lets everyone know that you, too, tried to make an edgy remark once, that didn't work well, and you left it at that. But that attempt at an edgy remark is coming back to haunt you, because it's impossible to tell if you were attempting an edgy remark or are secretly racist/sexist/-ist.
It's a very difficult situation, and people do loose their jobs over preemptive measures to avoid outrage that hasn't happened yet.

The very nature of making an edgy remark, the fact that it is edgy, means that it could be taken badly. If you know that going in, you really don't get to act surprised if or when it gets taken badly. That was the risk of the act to begin with. You don't get to take your money back just cos you don't like the hand you were dealt in poker. Adult games win adult prizes, and face adult consequences. Welcome to responsibility. It's not supposed to taste good when it goes wrong.

What's the point of a rule if there's no consequence when it get's broken? Obey the rule! "No!" Well, he's got us, we can't do anything... Clearly you didn't MEAN for the edgy remark to be taken badly, just like a drunk driver didn't MEAN to kill everyone in the car they collided with. But if that's what happens, that's what happens. You still gotta deal with the consequences of that.

Not to mention, why do you NEED to make the edgy remark? Cos other people do? Look how it ends for them. Maybe there's better behavior to emulate, ya? You were TRYING to be edgy, you don't get to say "oops, I didn't mean that!". And if you didn't mean what you said, maybe you shouldn't say things you don't mean. How are people supposed to know what you DO mean and what you don't? Take your word for it? How do they know you mean it? Don't be disingenuous, it's just another form of dishonesty.

If you're making an edgy remark with no understanding of what you're saying, you're playing with fire, and probably shouldn't "experiment" with "edgy jokes". You don't get un-shot just cos you didn't know the gun was loaded. A knife still cuts, even if you have no understanding of what "sharp" is. "I didn't know!" doesn't cut it in the real world. That's a kid's excuse, and why acting "edgy" is a kid's game.

And for the record, plenty of people make edgy jokes that bomb, and do JUST FINE. More often than not, the "joke" in question wasn't their first strike, it's just the only strike that got publicity - or their response to the criticism of the "joke" made their position clear, and was the final nail. Very seldom do people get axed for a minor first-strike. And if you think what they did is minor, you may want to self-reflect a little bit. Occasionally people do overreact, and that's nothing new - it's just a lot more public now - but more often than not, people are getting at least some of what they deserve, as opposed to being blindly and irrevocably punished for the slightest most innocent of transgressions, as some people seem to think.

Most bigotry doesn't realize it's bigotry, cos it mistakenly believes that the bigotry they hold is merely "truth". To them, black people just ARE violent, mexicans just ARE lazy, and that's all there is to it. That's why they think everything is all about "PC language", and re-naming things to make them sound nicer and protect feelings - "oh, sorry, they're not "lazy", they're "economically disenfranchised", don't wanna offend them!". Failing to realize that they're not flipping lazy or violent, any more than anyone else, and that's just a narrative people buy into, cos that's the narrative america pushed for over a hundred years.

Memes aren't facts. Youtube videos aren't facts. Actions have consequences.

Also, anyone else catch the irony of them implying comedy is dead and cancel culture is rampant, WHILE making a comedic satire, that's entirely paid for using crowdsourcing? At least one of them IS a stand up comedian. So, comedy is dead, yet they're making off well by doing comedy, and you can't say anything offensive, even though they're clearly being provocative, and cancel culture is out of control, even though these videos are still publicly posted available and shareable several years later. Wow. Such canceled. So silenced. Much censored.

It's almost like a kafka trap with a troll comment as bait. Intentionally making a provocative statement in such a way that the legitimate negative response can be taken as proof of their premise.

Agreed, and each site with its own rules. For example on YouTube content is removed or censored. On others there are stricter rules.
One can repent, censor their own selves or remove their media and realize own error on some websites, not always 'unable to unshoot the shot' especially if it wasn't major.

And that's the irony, today's movies, series and videogames are more graphic in violence, scenes more realistic, than decades ago.
