We'll have to disagree. Your reservations may be true in some cases, but they aren't a reason to not even try. My daughter had a Section 8 apartment in a decent part of town (but then moved in with her current partner, which worked out well for her). The rent was maybe $950 and she had to pay maybe $270. Living independently conveys to yourself as well as prospective dates that you are fully grown up and capable of meeting life's challenges.

Section 8 housing is a bit different in each state, but looking at the listings for my state a lot of them aren't in the "ghetto". Were they in poorer areas? Yes, but they're not all straight up "ghetto" or dangerous areas.

I think that it would be useful to at least look more into Section 8 housing, and if it doesnt work out that could at least even be a sign to others that you are serious about living on your own and are willing to take any steps needed.

I am happy that your daughter had a nice experience with section 8 housing BeaArthur and HeroOfHyrule it is true that section 8 housing is different in every state, Marknis and I both live in Texas and in this state if you are on housing you are most likely going to be living in a "ghetto" neighborhood. While my family live in a decent apartment we always think about how lucky we are to have found such a nice apartment cause many that my mother looked at were worn down, some the rooms were kinda leaning to the side, and some just looked awful like the owners didn't take care of the place at all(or did a very poor job of doing so).

BeaArthur I'm not saying all this to dissuade him from trying(heck, I'll still try once COVID finally ends!) I'm saying this cause I wouldn't want him to go through with moving and expect a much better result than what he may realistically get.
